[OoC I asked if anyone actually saw him while he was crossing, looking for clues re possible traps/tripwires, etc.]
[OoC: Jonath was the only person in a position to see the kobold. He didn't notice him being particularity careful or staying to one side or the other of the bridge. ]

"I did not notice him taking any sort of special care, but it's a good thought to check the bridge anyway - we may need to cross back on our way out in somewhat of a hurry, so we should be sure it will be safe," he says, dropping to a crouch to inspect the bridge, leaning carefully over the edge to check the sides as well, though admittedly the dizzying depth of the pit intimidated him, making his examination perhaps less thorough than it could have been.

Mardak sighs and mutters a complaint while  stowing his shield,  then rummages in his pack for a torch.   He  draws his sword  after lighting the torch. "We need to get in there, I'm not stallin' anymore."

He goes across the bridge.

Selina looks at Mardak as he lights a torch, glances at her flashlight, then shrugs and moves on, staying silent and staying at the middle of the group where she can help most.
"Do not touch the rope by the gate, no doubt that is the trigger for their alarm system."

obviously exasperated by Mardak's heedlessness, she waits a moment before following him across.

"Exercise some caution. You've almost gotten killed already from a heedless act, don't repeat it, or worse yet get the people we are here to rescue killed."
It was a time for Mardak to think, and as those thoughts ramble through his mind, he notices the wisdom in the words of his friend/companion/co-adventurer.   So as long as his sword is drawn, he will defend those co-adventurers.

"Well are ye comin' then or do I have to wait?"  With a stiff upper lip, Mardak marches forward into the unknown if they want to join him.
Jonath searches the bridge but doesn't find anything that would indicate a trap.  He notes the workmanship of the bridge isn't very good.  It's sturdy enough for small creatures but perhaps larger folk should be a little more careful and certainly the mules (Which can weigh up to 1,250# without equipment) should pass over the bridge by themselves.

If everyone follows Jonath's assessment of the bridge, you all carefully make it over the hole with no problems.   Now at the Portcullis you peek around the corner and can see the passages both lead to the East and the south.  There appears to be a set of bars to the south east that may be another closed portcullis, and the beginning of tracks, like what an Ore Cart would ride upon, to the east.
"I think it would be advisable for me to scout ahead a bit. Most of you understandably need a light source in these tunnels, but those living here will see that light coming a long way off and know immediately that there are intruders. I also suggest we leave the donkeys here at the entrance - that bridge may struggle to support their weight, and they may become too much of a burden in tight tunnels."

With that said, he moves towards what looks like another portcullis to the southeast.

Selina basically ignores Mardak for his foolhardiness and continue on, making sure to move carefully over the bridge one at a time. She notices the cart tracks, points at them, and looks over to Jonath as if to suggest their end goal.
