Re: Kobold spears.  Strangely the Kobold's description says they use spears but the listed damage is 1d6 even though small spears do 1d4.  They could be using long spears but that's a reach weapon and they don't have reach.  But it makes sense that a small longspear would lose the reach.  So under the circumstances just consider them normal spears for Medium characters with no penalties and longspears for small characters but without the reach.  I'm not going to give any penalties to hit for weapon improvision.]

"I could not take the superior weapon, m'lady," the guard replies when Selina offers her morningstar.  "A sling will do you little good if the Kobolds manage to close for melee and you are then forced to use one of those crude spears.  I would rather use the spear then to give you a lesser weapon to defend yourself.  And my apologies, m'ladies, my name is Tomeal (toe-MEAL)."

[OoC;  Short spear does 1d6 for med. 1d4 for Small
Spear does 1d8 for Med., 1d6 for small and requires 2 hands
Longspear does the same as spear but has reach.. ]
"A pleasure to meet you Tomeal.  I could offer you the use of this cudgel, while I still have my spear." She says, holding up her 'cudgel'  the thigh bone of some large animal, one end wrapped in leather for a grip.

"Once we are in the kobold lair, you could also use my crossbow, I have other missiles at my disposal and range will not be as great a factor below-ground."
[OoC: Ah ok, thank for pointing that out. I was at work and very tired so I forgot about the regular spear. [DISAPPOINTED FACE]]

Tomeal looks at the thighbone with some aversion and replies, "No, that is quite alright.  Innovative choice of weapon though.  I usually just give my leftover shanks to the dogs.  Who knew?"

The morning soon arrives.  Most of you get up, eat breakfast and then pack up and start preparing for the day.  Nacesh needs a little more sleep so he sleeps in until 10am and then takes another 15 minutes to prepare his spells.

  • Description: Clear
  • Temperature: Moderate

[OoC: I need a healing check from Selina for Mardak's ability damage.  In the morning, Mardak gets 1 point back.  I just need to see if you can roll well enough to get him another point back.]
The remaining watch schedule having been sorted, Jonath had quickly retired to his tent. This whole situation had been troubling on many levels, and he could see Betimi's distress, but he knew Selena would likely be better prepared to help her than he would, and he needed some rest. Those stirges hadn't done nearly the number on him that they had on Mardak, but he had lost some blood and had been feeling a bit sluggish since then, and knew their prospects for good rest wouldn't likely be improving anytime soon.

He took a few moments to meditate, calming his mind and body, reflecting on the night's events. What could have caused Mardak to behave in such a way? He had certainly displayed erratic and somewhat reckless mannerisms before now, but chasing a dragon, alone, in the pitch dark went to a whole new level. He was obviously a man with a pained past, and something had triggered his behavior. But then, who among them wasn't pained in some way. In fact, anyone who took up adventuring must have some trauma in their past, else why would one choose such a life? Certainly there was glory to be had, but that glory was far outweighed by peril. No, anyone who undertook such a path clearly had suffered in the past, and had a good share of that suffering still with them. Mardak's had manifested itself in perhaps a highly inconvenient way, but they all had it, and all had to deal with hit in their own ways.

With these thoughts he felt a sense of peace come back over him, replacing the annoyance and anger that had been building over the man's actions, and their situation in general. There would be a tough road ahead, and while they clearly would need to work on reigning Mardak in, it would do no one any good to hold on to resentment of one another. They were in this together, for now at least, and would have to make the best of it.

He awakes feeling somewhat refreshed, and quickly helps break down camp. "So what is our plan moving forward? We still have the captives to consider - I don't feel we can just leave off, even given last night's...events. Selena, with your magic and capable ministrations, is he well enough to at least stay with us as move onward? There aren't really enough of us to split off to get him back to the city, and I don't think sending him off alone would be advisable either..."
Selina responds, but not without some hesitation.

"While I do not want to see him reopening those wounds, he should be relatively capable in combat. Pain will still alert him top anything going wrong and I expect him to pay he'd to it.
Selina smiles to Tomeal, grateful to know his name.

"Charmed, Tomeal.  Thank you for joining us."

Then Selina responds to Jonath, but not without some hesitation.

"While I do not want to see him reopening those wounds, he should be relatively capable in combat.  Pain will still alert him top anything going wrong and I expect he shall pay heed to it."

The anxiety and uncertainty is clearly apparent in her eyes and stance.  Selina really does not want to bring Mardak into combat so soon after being battered around by the creature.  There is also the matter what they actually came here to do.
Betimi waits for everyone to be up from their rest then breaks up her camp, packing the tent up into a neat bundle and stacking it with the other gear that had been on Beast's pack saddle.

Sorting through the packs she gathers some items she will need to carry herself,, then she creates a second pile, those things that the party will need to distribute to the other mules, as they cannot afford to be abandoned.

"Sekina, can you or Nacesh have your mules shoulder this extra load? You are welcome to anything in that first pile as well, I have little need for tack or feed."
