The boom resonates with something deep with Bazz's soul, eliciting an echo of the innate fear of the thunderous anger of the gods of Theros within him.  This pall of dread settles over him like a shroud.  He doesn't know exactly what is in the hallway beyond, but he knows that his death is just behind it. [[Failing the save against the booming give you the frightened condition.  You may save again at the end of each of your turns to shake off the effect.

  • A frightened creature has disadvantage on Ability Checks and Attack Rolls while the source of its fear is within Line of Sight.
  • The creature can’t willingly move closer to the source of its fear.

Also feeling the full effects of the booming Anders screams with terror as two greyish pseudopods lash out at him from the direction of the back of the ship.  The first swings high, well over the cleric's head.  The second one, however, catches him square in the chest.  Anders chuffs as the wind is momentarily knocked out of him.

Melville, Bazz and Rupert, what are you going to do?

[[Just realized I forgot to move the chest.  Rupert is currently using both hands to carry it. It is heavy and awkward enough that it take two hands to carry it without impacting movement. I'll move it in the next screenshot.]]

[[Was this a spell that affected us?  If it is, Bazz gains advantage on saves vs spells and other magical effects.]]

Unfortunately, it is a natural spell-like effect, but not a spell itself.
Rupert sets the chest down at his feet, and then draws his sword and moves to assist Anders against the pseudo pods.
While trying not to shit his pants, Bazz will cast Armor of Agathys.

[Bonus Action] Bardic Inspiration on Rupert

Quote:Bard Inspirataion:  Once within the next 10 minutes, the creature can roll a 1d6 and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. The creature can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use the Bardic Inspiration die, but must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. Once the Bardic Inspiration die is rolled, it is lost. A creature can have only one Bardic Inspiration die at a time.

"Go get it, you big strong Giff, you!"
As a bonus action Melville will cast Dragon's Breath on himself, choosing lightning as the damage type, then waddle as fast as he can to the square 'north' of Anders, praying he does not provoke an AoO, but needing to get us out of this room.

Following behind the rapid Dohwar, Rupert sets down the chest and steps forward in front of the dwarf, also taking in wall of goo that confronts them.

The echo of the boom still resonating within Bazz, he casts his Armor spell and yells encouragement at Rupert. [[At the end of your turn you can make another save to shake off the fear.]]

Anders, still reeling from the blow and quaking with fear, closes his eyes and utters a quick prayers to the power of the stars and void.  Channelling the power of wildspace itself, even within the flow, motes of starlight twinkle down upon all of you, including yourself.  Each of you feels bolstered and empowered by this divine aid. [[Casting Bless on everyone.  You bless up to three creatures of your choice within range. Whenever a target makes an attack roll or a saving throw before the spell ends, the target can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the attack roll or saving throw.  This stacks with the bonus Rupert already has from the Bardic Inspiration]]  Supported by the Bless and the immediate support of the rest of the boarding crew, Anders appears to shake off the primal fear that the initial boom caused.

Suddenly facing several new targets, the mound of goo begins to oscillate and quiver.  Small echoes of the earlier boom rumble within the mass as all but the shield bearing pseudopods.  The mass itself begins to vibrate, and it is obvious to everyone that it is likely building up to an even bigger booming than the first.

How do you all respond?

Rupert attacks one of the creature's psuedopods with his Longsword, and saves his bonus action to use a Ki point on Patient Defence.
