[OoC: Power Stunts cost 100 karma to declare plus whatever Karma you want to use to succeed.  The first time you must roll well enough to get a Red Result.  The next 3 times you do the feat you need to get a yellow result.  The last 6 times you need a green result.  After that the Stunt is yours to use whenever you want.  ]

[OoC2:  I'm not 100% sure if you are aware of your position.  Both James and Malcolm are in the center of a group of Morlocks.  Even if you were to blast Masque, there are two very large Morlocks guarding the only passage out of the room.  Turning and running may be difficult to do with them standing in your way.  I'm not telling you not to do it but I want to make sure you realize how surrounded you are in this room.]
Ooc - Thanks. No I was not aware how badly their situation was/is.... I'm on the fence on what to do.  Part of me wants to continue with my stated action and see how it plays out, the other part of me doesn't want to see how it'll play out.  I'm gonna make a roll, Heads = attack, Tails = reconsider/not-attack Smile [url=[1d2] = 1]Heads or Tails (1/2)[/url]  Looks like James is gonna attack despite the odds.  What a brave fellow...

James lets loose with his Hyper-Breath on Masque, hoping to catch him and his goons off guard.  After all, Malcontent seemed to approve of the ad hoc plan.

Ooc - Since I wanted to try a power stunt to blind them with debris do you want me to reroll? I declare to use the 100 karma for the power stunt and another 100 for the roll. Is that right? Either way, James spends 200 Karma Wink
[OoC you only spend 100 karma plus whatever you need to get theRed feat.. so you have to roll the d100]
[OoC: Carter you are half right.

1a) You say you're going to use 100 for a Power Stunt.

b) Optionally you can then say, I want to use Karma when I roll to see if you succeed. (I suggest you do this because you don't want to fail your roll and lose 100 karma.

2)  You roll a d100.  Since this is the first time that you're using the power stunt you need a RED result on the UNIVERSAL TABLE using your Power Rank (Which is Remarkable).  Looking at the table, a red result means you must roll a 95+ (this is why declaring Karma is a wise decision).  When you declare karma YOU AUTOMATICALLY spend at least 5pts even if you don't need it.  So YOU MUST type into THE UNSEEN SERVANT, [1d100+5].  The +5 proves you planned to use Karma.

3) Result...

Quote:Example1: Lets say you roll a 50.  You needed at least a roll of a 95.  To reach 95 you needed an additional 45pts (95-50=45).  So the total you spent is 100 for the stunt + 45 Karma = 145pts.
Quote:Example2:   Lets say you roll 99!  You only needed 95 so you succeeded without the need for karma.  But when you declare you're using Karma you automatically use 5pts.  So the total karma spent is 100 for the stunt +5= 105pts
P.S.: When adults declare Karma they must use 10pts instead of the 5pts students use.

P.P.S: The first time you attempt a Power stunt you will need a RED result.  If you succeed, the next 3 times you use the stunt you will require a YELLOW result.  When you succeed 3 times, you will require a GREEN result 6 more times.  Once you've succeeded a total of 10 times the Power Stunt is yours to use any time you want at no cost.

Does this make sense?
Ooc - It does, and thank you for explaining. I was unaware of the 5 point declaration. So going with the stated action and previous power roll of 44...
I would declare my power stunt intent 5-points, plus the difference of 95-44 = 51 to achieve a Red Result. So James spends 56 + 100 to do the power stunt. 156 karma correct?

Ooc2 - So any time I wish to use a power stunt it'll cost the extra 5 points just for the declaration until it is in my repertoire after 10 uses? James is going to the battle room Big Grin
OoC1: The 5pts is the minimum used regardless of what you rolled.  It isn't added on top of what you needed to succeed.

Quote:So when you declare you are using karma and succeed WITHOUT needing the 5pts you still pay 5 points anyways.

Quote:But if you you rolled an 85 and you needed a 95, you pay a total of 10 karma.

So you needed 51pts to reach 95 so it costs you 151pts of karma.  If you had rolled 95 or more, you would still have to pay the minimum of 5pts for a total of 105pts of karma.

OoC2: Yes, once you have succeeded 10 times you no longer need to roll to activate that power.
[OoC:  I'm having trouble finding the Hyper Breath power.  There is such a power on the Classic Marvel web site but I thought the power was in the Ultimate Powers Book.  I know there were a few addendums to the UPB in the Dragon Magazine that added additional powers that were forgotten and they were even added to the PDF of the book (which is why some powers in the index are colored red to show they are from the addendum) but I don't see Hyper Breath.   Confused

Maybe there is a more complete UPB that I need to find.  ]
[OoC: I found this power from one of the Ultimate Addendums.

P18 - Hyper-Intake/Expulsion: This power was in my original UPB proposal, yet not only did I forget to put this in the UPB, I also forgot to put it in the original addenda article! This power is usually referred to as "Super Breath" and, while it is technically a Matter Control power, should be listed under the class of Physical Enhancement powers in the UPB. The hero has the ability to ingest awesome amounts of matter, retain them indefinitely, then expel them with power rank force. When creating a hero with this power, the player must decide what the hero can handle. A random die roll determines his chance of having the power to handle gas, liquid, solids, or some combination of these.

Die roll Category
01-16 Gases only
17-32 Liquids only
33-48 Solids only
49-64 Gases and liquids
65-80 Liquids and solids
81-00 Gases, solids, and liquids

This power enables the hero to absorb quantities far exceeding the normal volume of the human body. He can absorb a volume of gas equal to the power rank number times 100 cubic feet. Liquids and solids are limited to the number of cubic feet equal to the power rank number. A side effect of this power is that the ingested matter is somehow compressed, diminished in size, or displaced into a pocket dimension: this enables the hero to retain his ordinary shape, although his weight does increase a token amount. It is up to the Judge's discretion as to how much weight is gained, with a 1% weight increase being a rule of thumb. Note that a sudden failure of this power can be disastrous! Such catastrophes range from (at best) the sudden expulsion of all ingested matter, retention of the ingested matter with the hero suddenly bearing all of its weight, or the rapid expansion of the ingested matter to its original size (this latter possibility being quite fatal).

Normally, a hero can retain the ingested matter indefinitely. A side effect of the power gives the hero internal invulnerability equal to his power rank, preventing major internal damage due to ingested poisons or physically damaging materials. Solids and liquids can be retained for as long as the hero can go without food; digestion normally stops while this power is in effect. If the gases ingested are toxic, the hero can only retain them for the amount of time he can hold his breath. If the mixture is not toxic and contains a sufficient quantity of oxygen, then the hero can hold his breath indefinitely.

The hero can expel the matter harmlessly or direct it into a blast that has power rank range and damage. He can also do damage by ingesting. For example, by inhaling all the air in a room, he can cause certain events to occur. One, everyone in the room must make an Endurance FEAT or pass out from the sudden absence of air. Two, the room can implode if the pressure difference exceeds the walls' material strength.

But I'm pretty sure you didn't want this power.  You just wanted the hyper Breathe power.  So maybe you did pick the power from the Classic Marvel Website.  ]
[OoC: No reply so I'm pushing on.  I'm going to assume the power comes from the Classic Marvel Website because I seem to remember James saying he didn't want the other power.]

James takes a deep breath.  Despite Masque [Initiative 30 even with bonus] threatening that he was ready for James attack, James still manages to release the blast of air before Masque can react.  [Initiative 37].   The wind strikes Masque and some how he manages to keep his footing and is only staggered.  [Masque made a Yellow result on the slam column.   Sad ] and unfortunately so did about half of the morlocks that were standing around him.  [Rolled a group check and they rolled well and also got a yellow resultSad  But on average their endurance is not as good as Masque so while they rolled well, still half of them are blown off their feet.]  The rest of the Morlocks hold onto each other for their lives and resist.

Masque hisses, "You DARE!?!" and lashes out at James.  His hand seizes the young man and he suddenly feels like the texture of his skin has turned to taffy.  [This is a Monstrous ranked attack.  Unfortunately your endurance is not high enough to resist.   Confused ]  Within seconds Masque has his fingertips buried half way into the flesh around his now sealed mouth.  Masque glares at Malcolm and growls, "You want to try something?  Or should I remove his head altogether!!"
Malcolm [who obviously lost initiative, or didn't even get to roll] stops what e was about to da and just spits out a reply, this time without stuttering. His voice is clear and firm.

"He only intended distraction so we could leave, no harm to anyone. Let us go, and we will not come back. Nor will we tell anyone where you are."

"It seems that Ben's choice has been made. And he must endure the consequences of his choice."

"If you keep us here then you will always have to guard us, and that takes resources. Your other choice is to murder us, and I do not believe you want to have your people know you are capable of murdering children in cold blood."

"If you prove to them that you can be merciful, they will follow you a lot further than they will if they think they might be safer without you. terror only goes so far."

If James were not  suffering so much and in abject terror, he might wonder at the complete lack of stutter, perhaps maybe worry a little.

As Malcolm is talking he is sending out a tendril of telekinetic force, with his clairvoyant eye on the endm reaching out as far as he possibly can, trying to back-track their routem hoping to find the others.

[OoC note Rm Telekinesis is Range category A so range 8 areas; Gd Clairvoyance is range category E = 2500 miles.. Malcolm just doesn't know he can look that far]
