Hit point rolls [1d12] = 8, [1d12] = 9, [1d12] = 5, [1d12] = 4
= 26
so rolled just slightly better than half

Total hp = 13 + 26 + Con 15 == 54 HP

Sorry, but I have a couple more questions.   Blush

What about multi-class combinations.  For example, only Half-Elves and Half-Orcs may be Fighter/Clerics.  What about a Elf Fighter/Cleric.  I'm wondering because I'm trying to decide between an Elf Fighter/Magic User (which is an accepted combination) or an Elf Fighter/Cleric (Which I'm not so sure about).  In the PH a Dwarf can't be a multi-classed cleric but in the UA they change that and allow a Dwarf to be a Fighter/Cleric, though they kind of hide the information while talking about level maximums for single and mult-classed characters.  It would be nice if they had a table in UA that just stated all the multi-classed combinations.  Instead they bury in the description of the Grey Dwarf: "Just like their kindred, Grey Dwarves may be a Fighters, clerics or thieves... Grey Dwarves may also multi-class as Fighter/Clerics..."  And then mention at the bottom of Page 8 (in the 'Important' scetion) they talk about a Hill Dwarf Fighter/Cleric.  Anyways, can Elves be Fighter/ Clerics?

I asked about ability maximums for women but what about racial maximums?  For example, Halflings can have a maximum strength of 17; an Gnome a max strength of 18/50; and Elf a max strength of 18/75, etc

Welcome to AD&D.

So go with the section on multi-class in the PHB. I'll even add dwarves to the fighter/cleric section. Only half-elves can be fighter/clerics. Racial maximums are unchanged.

We're back to three when our fireman returns. The other guy decided rolling in public like everyone else was too much.

I started playing a new/old game called Stronghold(1993) and now I am interested in a little old school D&D action Smile

= 17]Roll1
= 15]Roll2
= 11]Roll3
= 13]Roll4
= 15]Roll5
= 13]Roll6
= 9]Roll7

I hope I did the rolls correctly.

Nerdred, I do not think that is the correct Syntax.  [4d6c1] rolls four six-sided dice, and cuts (drops) the lowest roll.  DM MiB wants you to roll [4d6] and reroll 1's and THEN drop the lowest.  Look at my roll at the bottom to see the Syntax DM Vitkyng and I used.

BTW do you know what class you want to be?

I've been kind of procrastinating all day.  I generally hate rolling stats.  My luck has been terrible (as evident from breaking my foot by simply walking down a soft, carpeted hallway) and I'm expecting to roll even worse than I did the first time.  But lets see...

Stat 1 [1d6r2] = 3, [1d6r2] = 4, [1d6r2] = 6, [1d6r2] = 4 (4, 4, 6 = 14)
Stat 2 [1d6r2] = 3, [1d6r2] = 4, [1d6r2] = 6, [1d6r2] = 5 (4, 5, 6 = 15)
Stat 3 [1d6r2] = 4, [1d6r2] = 6, [1d6r2] = 5, [1d6r2] = 6 (5, 6, 6 = 17)
Stat 4 [1d6r2] = 2, [1d6r2] = 3, [1d6r2] = 5, [1d6r2] = 4 (3, 4, 5 = 12)
Stat 5 [1d6r2] = 6, [1d6r2] = 2, [1d6r2] = 2, [1d6r2] = 3 (2, 3, 6 = 11)
Stat 6 [1d6r2] = 4, [1d6r2] = 5, [1d6r2] = 6, [1d6r2] = 6 (5, 6, 6 = 17)

Holy bejesus!  I actually rolled well!  In order of lowest to highest: 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 17!  Now I have to figure out if I will be a Fighter/ Magic User; a Cleric/ Magic User; or maybe really push it by being a Fighter/ Cleric/ Magic User.

Suggestions?

I didn't roll 7 times.

Stat 7 [1d6r2] = 3, [1d6r2] = 5, [1d6r2] = 6, [1d6r2] = 6 (5, 6, 6 = 17)  WOOT!!   Cool

In order of lowest to highest: 12, 14, 15, 17, 17, 17!  Discarding the 11.

I have been working on my character but I picked up a couple of extra shifts this week so I've been even more tired than I usually am from working overnights.  I also have to go to the hospital tonight to get an MRI so I really need to get to bed.  Hopefully I'll get some more work done on the character tonight when I return.

DM MiB: I don't suppose you would let me drop 2 points in a stat to raise another stat by 1 point?   Blush

Yeah I noticed that after I rolled, but was too tired to do it again lol. I want to see where the dice fall before picking a class.
= 2,[1d6r2] = 3,[1d6r2] = 3,[1d6r2] = 4]Stat1 ( 4, 3, 3 = 10)
= 3,[1d6r2] = 4,[1d6r2] = 4,[1d6r2] = 5]Stat2 ( 5, 4, 4 = 13 )
= 4,[1d6r2] = 5,[1d6r2] = 6,[1d6r2] = 6]Stat3 ( 6, 6, 5 = 17 )
= 5,[1d6r2] = 6,[1d6r2] = 2,[1d6r2] = 4]Stat4 ( 6, 5, 4 = 15 )
= 6,[1d6r2] = 3,[1d6r2] = 4,[1d6r2] = 3]Stat5 ( 6, 4, 3 = 13 )
= 6,[1d6r2] = 3,[1d6r2] = 2,[1d6r2] = 2]Stat6 ( 6, 3, 2 = 11 )
= 5,[1d6r2] = 6,[1d6r2] = 2,[1d6r2] = 2]Stat7 ( 6, 5, 2 = 13 )

Lowest to highest: 11, 13, 13, 13, 15, 17

Leaning toward magic user, maybe elf...

Hey, glad to have you Nerdred. I still play Stronghold on occasion. My obsession lately has been Pool of Radiance. I never finished it back in the day. I'm plowing through the whole series if it kills me. Using Gold Box Companion is helping me get over the lack of modern gaming shortcuts.

DM MiB: I don't suppose you would let me drop 2 points in a stat to raise another stat by 1 point? Sure.

DM Nerdred here. After some reflection, I'm not sure what Marvel is going to be? Re-reading the thread you were bouncing around between a fighter/MU or fighter/cleric? I am just starting to flesh out character ideas so I can always change to what is needed, I am not attached to an idea yet. First is Mardigan, a dastardly half-elven theif/MU. If I am reading the xp split (17,000xp between both classes) he could be a theif 5/ MU 4 correct? How do I calculate HP, average die rolls between d4 and d6? Also he would like a familiar. One last thing, I was in the library the other day, in the Restricted Section, and I read something rather odd about a bit of rare magic. It's called, as I understand it... Psionics?

Second character is Advylon (pronounced Advil-on, because I had a headache at the time and it sounded elvish) He would be a Wood-elf fighter lvl 6, and specialize in the bow. I could also make him a fighter/MU if needed.

Let's leave psionics in the appendix where it belongs.

You basically get half your die roll for hp.

If I am reading the xp split (17,000xp between both classes) he could be a theif 5/ MU 4 correct? yup

Yup, loving me some Stronghold.  Pool of Radiance, haven't played that in a long time, it's a good one.  They don't make'em like they used too. I never finished it either, lol. Being the scattered brained person that I am, I will wait for GM Marvel to tell me what character he was making before I go any further.  I already started a Grugach Druid level 7 and a Half-Orc Fighter level 6... and a few others just in caseSmile  I have so many characters already on this site but none of them are too magiky so I figured I'd give that type a shot.

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
