A Rude Awakening
#91
Cutter looked out the barn door and called Benji over ...and of course Benji knew exactly where he was. ...it was the same barn after all. Probably about 12 miles from Sandpoint, where he was supposed to meet with Abstalar Zantus, the High Priest of the town. [

He sang a song of healing and some of Cutters wounds healed.

Meanwhile Eloric was kneeling and examining these creatures...these aberrations. They are from a people called the alghollthu, serving their Abolith Masters, Aquatic Creatures that sought to control and dominate the land dwellers. These Ugothols...or Faceless Stalkers used shapeshifting to infiltrate settlements and assassinate key targets. They sowed discord and replaced leaders, causing unwanted organizations to implode and bothersome people to lose face and eventually disappear. Entirely terrestrial in nature, ugothols can easily extend alghollthu plots above the waves for extended periods of time, giving their aquatic masters enhanced reach into these unpleasantly dry realms. Today, most faceless stalkers—like the less dangerous ulat-kini...or Skum—pursue programmed goals without the guidance of alghollthu rule. Faceless stalkers prefer to live as close to the sea coast as possible, although they are not aquatic creatures themselves. Most dwell in tiny tribes in marshlands. Others live in the sewers of coastal towns.

By instinct, faceless stalkers seek to sow discord. They replace leaders in humanoid societies, then guide infiltrated settlements down paths of destruction. Among humanoids who have wicked tendencies, a faceless stalker can become a prominent trailblazer, leading a group to new heights of depravity and violence. Inevitably, however, faceless stalker infiltrators lead their followers to ruin. The ugothol eventually moves on—either because its true nature is about to be discovered, or because it has despoiled or devastated all local resources.

An ugothol gains nourishment only through its long, bloodsucking tongue. Their prey bear distinctive triple puncture wounds near major arteries. Corpses bearing such marks are typically the first clues found to uncover a faceless stalker’s presence, though sometimes they are overlooked as marks belonging to a vampire or chupacabra. Why they were serving as Henchmen of this Red Wizard was yet to be discovered.

Robsen replenished his quiver getting it back to 40 arrows.

Okay Benji sounds like you got it all figured out, so take care of these folks in here. Turning to Robsen Cutter says. Alright if you want a chance to read trail before we all go stomping through it. That sounds like a good idea but not alone. He pauses then adds I'm going with you, from this point on no one goes anywhere alone those creatures can look like any one. Until we figurer out a fool proof way to identify each other we stay in groups. Khayman you feel like tagging along the three of us can heal up after we make sure the barn is secure. Then turning back to Robsen he says Lead the way. Pointing his hand at the open door. I'll be about ten feet behind you, so I don't muddy your readings

Robsen carefully slips out of the barn, looking for tracks or sign of further ambush around the barn.

Benji's eyes widened with surprise as he recognized where he was. Hey! This is where the kidnaps happened! Nasty mens smacked poor Benji upside the head, those barbarians!. Good news though; we close to Sandpoint. Maybe three, four hour march from here.

The kobold held out a clawed hand to Robsen, bidding the ranger to wait just a minute while he mended his wounds. Then Benji went to take care of the rest of his new compatriots while the barn perimeter was being scouted out, offering fresh water and "treatos" from that seemingly bottomless bag of his in between healing.

Hymn of Healing: 16 hp healed on Robsen

(OOC: if you give Benji about an hour and a half of time he can heal everyone to full, with 8 additional casts of Hymn of Healing)

Robsen walks around the barn. sees the farmhouse about 50 feet away and an outhouse behind that.. But no sign of any people. Looking around he can tell its a wheat field. He looks at the tracks and can see the signs of a wagon pulling in front of the barn from a road about 75' away. and booted tracks around the wagon. He can also see tell it was 7 sets of identical boots. Plus a lighter footstep with a different set of boots and a heavier clawed footstep. The wagon went back towards the road. The lighter footsteps and the clawed feet went to the farmhouse, and returned. Cutter, Khaymen and Robsen walk to the house and look around. Through the windows, they can see the slaughtered bodies of the farmer and his family as well as the pets. Kelthas was thorough.

Killing in the course of battle is one thing, but this whole sale slaughter is the work of a true coward. The old man said after looking through the window. Walking around to the front door, he made his way inside, force habit asking whatever deity looking over the farmer and his family to guide their souls to a peaceful here after. Hey Cutter, let's give this place a thorough going over and see if we can find anything useful, or anything that might lead us closer to Kelthas

My thoughts exactly Khayman, Robsen keep an eye on the road please wouldn't want anyone catching us in here and thinking that it was us that did the deed. with that said Cutter gives the farm house a serious search. when he's done he heads back to the barn with Kayman and Robsen.

Robsen finds a place to hide in view of the road, and tells Cutter, "If you hear a barn owl hoot 3 times it means someone is coming and make yourself scarse!".

Khaymen and Cutter went through the house, while Benji went around singing healing songs for Merika, Cade and Aquila. Eloric went through the Barn looking for anything useful. There were farm tools aplenty . Robsen sat in some bushes mostly hidden from view, watching for intruders. Nothing came in to view and long minutes later Khaymen and Cutter emerged not finding anything of value, just normal clothing and household goods.

((you can pick up any normal farm tools or rural household good you wish to add to your inventory))

Emerging from the death house, Khayman headed for the barn, We need to head to the nearest town, see what information we can gather about this place, he said. Kelthas mentioned that others from our world, he refrained from mentioned Carcellon's name, or the names of his other friends and loved ones, had been cloned and were enduring their own hardships here on this alien world. If possible I would like to find as many of them as we can and if we cross paths with that insidious bastard, I'll gladly drive this rapier through his heart.

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
