[IC] A Stolen Land
(09-27-2017, 01:59 AM)Valdi Wrote: "Come brother, we have much work to do.    Lady Nexendia, where do you wish us to set the portions that will need salting?"

"I believe Oleg or his wife would more accurately be able to determine what portions sizes are best for selling to the public.  But we will need some kind of container like a barrel to store the meat in until it's consumed or sold.  A cool, dry, environment would also be preferable for storage.  Oleg, do you have any barrels or some other air tight containers to store the meat in?  And a cold cellar?"

Svetlana takes charge in speaking once more, shaking her head in reply.  "We haven't much in the way of supplies or storage.  You see, those thieving bandits have taken nearly everything from us.  It would not have been long...if you hadn't...well, we won't dwell on that."  There is a sort of pregnant pause for a few moments as the words sink in on all present.  This is a land of lawlessness and banditry.  The middle-aged man coughs to clear his throat at the sudden impasse of words, turning to address the group, revealing a holy symbol of Erastil hanging from his neck.  He is not quite sure whom to introduce himself to, given that no one has stepped forward to claim the leadership function in this case.  He glances between Andra and Valdi as the most likely choices in his mind, nodding to them, but Nexendia is not far down the list at all and earns a nod from him as well.

Bandits? - he asks suddenly - What do you know about them?

Tushou is new here and doesn't know the details but he is interesting in bandits.

"Well then, perhaps a cold cellar that we can hang the meat in until the next supply run arrives."

She will introduce herself to the man with the holy symbol.

The man seems relieved that one of you steps forward to greet him as there had a bit of a frosty period until then.  He bows briefly, eliciting a snort from a passing Vidar, which he ignores, and says “Greetings to you, good lady.  Jhod Kavken, cleric of Erastil at your service.  Am I to understand that you are in charge of the forces at this location’s disposal?”

Svetlana shakes her head in reply to Nexendia’s question.  “We are a trading post, not a goods market.  We are not currently equipped to prepare and process such large quantities of meat.  We had both hoped that you would return with positive news...but nothing quite this positive.”

She then turns to Tushou in response to his query.  “This land is a wild and dangerous one, filled with all manner of dangers natural and otherwise.  Bandits are just one of the many.  There are a large number of them and they grow by the moment.  Until our wonderful guests here protected us the other day, we had been under constant raids.  In fact, you are the second group to enter this location since they arrived.  We will need to find some other way of housing you all.”  She treats this as a serious issue, and it in fact is.  From two, the total occupancy of Oleg’s fort has quickly blossomed to 14.

[[Well, apologies about the delay, but I thought there’d be a bit more dialogue...oh well, continuing on.]]

When he sees the priest look to him as a possible leader Valdi gives a friendly nod, but then nods deferentially towards Andra and Nexendia.

Fine. I also was sent here to assist in reclaiming the Wilderness from bandits. If you need more man I am ready to join and stop them.

Eran nods to Tushou:
- We always welcome the helping hands so your are welcome in our group.

Nexendia will do what she can with drying, salting and flavoring the meet.  Then with the rest of the party's permission she will let everyone at the trading post take however much they require and then will pack the rest in barrel or crate.

"Unless my companions have some other suggestion, feel free to sell the unused portion here or to the nearest settlement or use as feed for any of the beasts who can stomach it."

Since Nex had already introduced herself to the new priest, she adds, "We should resupply and then leave as soon as convenient."

Valdi will take enough of the salted pork to sustain himself for a week, suggesting the others do likewise, though it may barely make a dent in the massive quantity of pork.

"It is too late in the day to again go out. Lady Andra, Lady Nexendia, shall we remain in the shelter of the outpost for the night?"

He looks at the ladies for a decision.

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
