RE: Missing Caravan - Mardak Trannyth - 02-23-2016

((OOC:  Mardak, directly asked her a question, she ignored him.  It does not take a response with your mouth when Body Language is the only thing that matters.  So he was right when he guessed that she would ignore him.  So...he shrugged.  Hope that clears up things.  As an aside, you do not have to post that you are using body language to convey it.  It's called the cold shoulder or being aloof or the player just missing a post that he/she may have wanted to respond to.  So basically, no big deal))

"Whatever I've been cuttin off looks like ears...Maybe I should cut their dicks off...That way I can have a bag of dicks to throw at my enemies."
He looks up with half a grin.  Mardak tries to wipe off his ichor/black dust stained arms before slicing more things off.

[OoC: I think she meant that you had already answered yourself ["Guessing by her non-reponse, Mardak makes it a non-issue and answers it himself.  'Yes' "] She had not posted anything toward Mardak since, Body Language or cold shoulder or being aloof or otherwise. She was focused upon the task at hand. She only replied to Mardak OoC then he suddenly replied again and this time indicating that her "body language" toward him might get her killed. Huh?   Huh  ]

[OoC: On an aside, Dammit, Betimi, your body just won't shut up!!  That's going to get you in trouble one of these days.  Tongue  ]

Betimi listens to the door with Jonath but you don't hear anything.  Jonath then checks the door for traps but he doesn't find anything suspicious.

[Remember you can normally Aid Another but if you're looking for traps I think you would need Trap Finding ability to assist him in looking for them.]

Tomeal listens to Betimi then replies, "I guess that's possible.  Who knows the mind of a reptile.  But I find it odd that about ten Kobolds were hanging around to make a last stand when something ripped apart their priests and nest.  And remember when Mardak was ripped a new one and fell in the slit in the stone?   Jonath and Nacesh heard the Kobolds talking about going out to check what was going on.  But the leader said, 'no you could get eaten.  Stay here while I go ask him.'  Who is 'him?'  They seemed pretty loyal to 'him' for possibly getting ready for a last stand.  Perhaps 'him' was one of the Kobolds we killed or it could be something we haven't seen yet."

"What I do know about Kobolds is they generally follow the oldest kobold who is usually the most powerful and/or something they fear.  Which is one of the reasons why they like dragons so much.  Their power and fear aura really gets them going.  It's almost a drug to them.  But when no dragon is around they will follow pretty much anything that is scary enough to keep them in line."

While speaking Tomeal will turn up his nose in disgust at Mardak.  Finally he says, "It's bad enough that your desecrating corpses but to then to try to pass them off as your kill to just get some coin is despicable.  And you do know, Cantus offers no bounty on Kobold ears.  Possibly certain guilds might have a bounty on certain Kobold clans that have proven to be a menace but they wouldn't openly advertise such a bounty and they wouldn't ask for ears.  They would want something that proved which clan they come from.  Whatever body part that had there clan symbol on it.  In this case, their symbol is painted on their face in blue so it looks like you would need heads.  But I wouldn't let the Kobolds in Cantus find out.  Cantus is ruled by spellcasters and some Kobolds are known to be powerful sorcerers."

RE: Missing Caravan - Selina Parcellus - 02-23-2016

Selina has another look around, thinking a bit more lucidly after shaking off the effects of Mardak's hobby.  She begins to speak, almost to herself, as she has a look around.  "What could make this kind of carnage, indeed?"  She regards the unholy unholy symbols with a mild distaste, then analyzes the entry wounds. Then she nods to Tomeal's questions. "Perhaps whatever killed them was this 'him', but perhaps there is another infernal trap of some kind in this room. Punctures can as easily be caused by darts as by teeth. I would need to perform an autopsy of some kind to determine the cause of death."

She searches her mind to  come up with something about dragons.
Knowledge (Arcana): [1d20] = 9

[[OOC]]Yes, I know Mardak already said that dragons would leave more death and destruction, but Selina is thinking along a slightly different line...more about whether something was physically capable of creating this situation. EDIT: Well, that changes things...[[]]

RE: Missing Caravan - GM Marvel - 02-23-2016

OoC: in the post where I posted the last map I stated that each corpse has a pair of puncture wounds somewhere on their body.

RE: Missing Caravan - Betimi - 02-23-2016

"I must admit my curiosity as well Selina at what creature or being could do this, but you are low on spells. Unless we want to drag a corpse somewhere safe while we rest I think we dare not take the time to dissect the corpses."

When Jonath nods that the door appears safe, she quietly announces his finding s to the party.

[OoC does the door open in or out?]

"I suggest we find a way to block this door temporarily  and explore yon open passage."  She gestures to the passageway leading east, on the far wall of the room from where she now stands.

[OoC from her and Jonath's current angle they should be able to see down it with their darkvision and low-light vision (forgot that Leraje grants low-light)[

RE: Missing Caravan - Jonath - 02-23-2016

Jonath nods. "A good idea, Betimi. We have enough unexplored areas at our backs as it is, and with this find," he sweeps his arm around the carnage in the room, "I'm more hesitant than ever to leave ourselves unguarded. I'd like to check the other door as well - the bar indicated they wanted something not to get out of there, which could mean something aggressive, but could also mean prisoners.

He crosses the room, being careful to avoid the glowing circle, and listens at the barred door, hoping to hear sounds of prisoners within so that they can free them and leave this place. Intriguing as it all was, most of them were wounded, their magics were running low, and they needed to get away from here as soon as they could.

RE: Missing Caravan - GM Marvel - 02-23-2016

Selina wracks her brain but nothing about this seems particularly Arcane.  And the dual puncture marks on each of the corpses look nastier than what a simple blade or arrow could inflict.  But the state of the bodies makes identifying the possible weapon used very difficult to determine.

Betimi determines all the doors open outward.  She then begins looking for something to block the doors.  And whether using the torch light or darkvision, whomever looks suspects the East passage connects with the far East corridor that travels north and south.

Jonath then moves over to the double doors and listens.  He believes he hears someone crying.

RE: Missing Caravan - Jonath - 02-23-2016

[OoC: Oops, forgot to include a roll for Listen, sorry about that]

"Hold a moment, this may change things," Jonath says, pulling his ear away from the barred door. "I think I hear someone crying behind this door. I believe we should open it - it may well be our captives. I'll search it for traps first, but I want us all to be in agreement on this before we open it."

As he waits for responses from his companions, he searches the door for traps.

Search:[1d20+8] = 17+8 = 25

RE: Missing Caravan - Selina Parcellus - 02-23-2016

Selina watches Jonath examine the door, her eyes snapping open when he relays what he hears. If the captives were inside, these corpses matter less than not-at-all. Kobold bodies immediately forgotten, she moves nearby to Jonath, ready to assist right away. "If the captives are in there, they are our primary goal and nothing else matters until we retrieve them."

RE: Missing Caravan - Betimi - 02-23-2016

"That does change things."

Betimi carefully positions herself between the doors and the circle, but behind Jonath, readying a sliver of crystal as she does.

She looks around at the others, hoping they also  prepare themselves.

"When you are Ready Sir Jonath, remove that board and open those doors."
