RE: A Stolen Land - Vidar the Red - 11-10-2016

Vidar acknowledges his brother with a nod then goes to stand in front of Happs, arms crossed, in silence... One way or another he will talk.  We will find his camp and who Kressle is and put an end to her banditry. Vidar ponders and waits, in silence.

Punishment for banditry - Eran - 11-12-2016

OOC - official governmental message
Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been charged by the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and authority vested within them by the office of the Regent of the Dragonscale Throne, has granted the right of exploration and travel within the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. Exploration should be limited to an area no further than thirty-six miles east and west and sixty miles south of Oleg’s Trading Post. The carrier of this charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry remains, as always, execution by sword or rope. So witnessed on this 24th day of Talistril, under watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov and authority grannted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of the Dragonscale Throne.

The situation is clear for me. He said that he is a robber and as you know: - Eran takes his scroll and reads two sentences - "The carrier of this charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry remains, as always, execution by sword or rope."

RE: A Stolen Land - Valdi - 11-13-2016

"Thank you for the reminder friend Eran. So it matters not if he is guilty of murder, the scions are clear in this, banditry is punishable by death. If we were to brand him and send him on his way, or even to follow the ways of 'our'" He gestures at himself and then toward his brother "...people, and maim him by lopping off his hand, then we are ourselves breaking the edict which we are governed by."

He looks at Andra.  "Is there any more to be gained from him? If not let us be done with the duty and then be about our business, finding the other bandits."

RE: A Stolen Land - Vidar the Red - 11-13-2016

Vidar breaks his silence but continues to stare at Happs.  "Is he Unrepentant?  That will decide his fate.  This one is not like the others.  Mayhap's his life is in the hands of the gods brother."

Ooc - The last sentence says unrepentant banditry, not banditry.  We need him to lead us to the bandit hideout... we can always kill him later Wink  On a side note, the intimidate skill can be used to interrogate and get people to talk.  With a roll of 31 from Vidar, I thought that would get this guy to spill his beans... like Chunk did in the Goonies.  Vidar is Chaotic Good and not as concerned with the letter of the law.  I'm almost tempted to let him go just so he can tell the world of our mighty deeds this day!

RE: A Stolen Land - Andra Petrescu - 11-13-2016

Andra begins rolling her eyes and shrugging, not really willing to waste energy on the argument. But then Vidar asks his question. "Exactly what I was thinking. Don't get me wrong. He seems like more trouble to drag along. But it would be helpful to have a better idea where we're going..." She thinks about asking them to define 'unrepentant,' since it seems like such a vague word.... but decides against it.

RE: A Stolen Land - Nexendia - 11-14-2016

Nexendia will look over her shoulder at Happs and says, "It seems we have a problem.  It appears our charter specifically states, unrepentant banditry is a death sentence.  So now we are troubled by the definition of 'unrepentant.'  Personally I believe actions speak louder than words.  So, I think you need to demonstrate how repentant you really are before we decide upon clemency or death.  To prove your repentance I ask you to lead us to your hide out.  If you do, we will weigh that action heavily when deciding to carry out your death sentence or granting you mercy.  Please, do not take this offer lightly.  I have no interest in being an executioner which is why I asked for your surrender at the beginning of our encounter.  You squandered that opportunity for mercy.  Please do not make the same mistake a second time."

RE: A Stolen Land - Valdi - 11-15-2016

"Well? The ladioes have asked you a question, best you answer them promptly. Death or repentance?"

"And be warned, if you claim repentance, and turn false, justice will come swiftly, without remorse."

[[That's...sort of how Intimidate works.  He would treat you as Friendly for the duration you're around and then for a brief time after and offer limited assistance.  He's not going to treat you like his long-lost brother and spill the beans on everything, especially given what else he has on his mind.]]

Happs looks up at the big barbarian bloodrager briefly ((Yes, I absolutely adore alliteration I admit), then decides against it.  Frightening, that one is.  Best to just...answer some of his questions.  Maybe he'll be less skeery then.

Happs seems just as unconcerned about the argument and shrugs it off as well...especially given he wasn't really asked about anything, he's just as happy not saying anything

[[Ah! An actual, direct question!  And not in the form of a question.  We likes this one, we does!]]

"Problem, huh?  You think that me beggin' for my life is an example of 'repentance?'  How are you supposed to know that I won't run the first chance this big wall of muscle of yours stops looking my way?  I think you need to decide for yourselves what that word means, because I gots no clue."  He makes no effort to respond to Nexendia's comment about her offering surrender at the beginning of the battle, primarily because the answer to it should be obvious.  "On the other hand, if you don't kill me and agree to help me out, I'll not only show ya where it is, I'll show ya how to survive Kressle.  Wouldn't recommend going there now though, she's got numbers on her side.  That one was fer free."

"Oh, I gots no doubts that 'justice will come swiftly.'  I gots no other choice now, do I?  Maybe you could f**king tell me how else I die in this damn wilderness?"

Valdi smiles broadly at Happs decision.

"You see that wasn't so hard. Repentance. How do you die?  Simple. you start by not dying, both literally and spiritually. That means working to make this wilderness less dangerous. Y can start that by NOT being one of the dangers and start helping people trying to make it less of a mire of despair."

The big man walks over and crouches down in front of Happs, leaning on the haft of his bardiche, his face inches from Happs'.

"You gave up on living awhile ago by the sounds of it, but there is the chance at life again if you choose." he says much quieter as he idly scratches his scruffy beard.

"Let me ask you for another 'free' bit of information. If we cannot take her head on we need to whittle down her numbers. When were you expected back? And I bet she has other rovers about, where were they next due to strike? And can they be convinced to work for some other cause than hers,? What hold does she have over you men aside from fear of a short, brutal death?"

RE: A Stolen Land - DM Dougfan - 11-16-2016

[[Only if they succeed at their Intimidation roll Wink ]]

"Kressle never expected us back today.  The camp is too far away and those goons you just slaughtered are obviously all too interested in getting drunk than finishing the job on time.  You've got some time before she'll get suspicious, three days, maybe four."

"Oh!  Dear, I just remembered.  We received a notice that we would be receiving some assistance from Restov."
"Well, hopefully they'll get here before Kressle figures things out."
"Damn.  You have *more* troops coming in?"
"Yeah, Restov sent us some troops to defend us from scum like you!"
"Oleg!"
"It's fine.  No less than I deserve after some of the things I've done."
"Damn skippy it is!"
"Oleg, enough!  Even he deserves a chance to redeem himself."

"Kressle doesn't have much of a stable after what I brought over here.  She won't send out a patrol and won't come after us until she gets the suspicion that we're not coming back.  There's no one else here!  At least not in this specific area, anyway.  I've heard there's a group out by Pitax, but I haven't heard anything else about them."
