Bones and Ashes
#61
His heart racing from the adrenalin burst, the elf caught his breath and began following the east wall back into the larger cavern. He came to a place where he detected a flow of air and after looking at the wall he pushed a rock that looked cleaner than the rest and a doorway slid open with a tunnel heading east as far as he could see. He felt himself calming down. Chip stayed on his shoulder.

Eloric pulls his power from the plane of life and lashes at the ghoul priest and a white whip of energy strikes the creature tearing a wound open on its chest. then he causes a mystical shield to appear again.

Cade groans from the pain and backs around the corner. to where Aquila is.

3 arrows fired from Robsen, all passing the priest as his hands unsteady from the necromantic surge shook. Things were different in this realm

Benji rushed in, his hand forming into a claw and he plunged it deep into the chest of the ghoul, pulling the undead heart from the priest and dropping it to the ground. Where the priests body followed.

End combat.

The Ceiling height within the warren is 6' and treated as difficult terrain (2x movement and a -2 to attack) for those over 6 feet. It is total darkness within the warrens; except in the tunnel you are advancing down as the sunlight outside shows down the tunnel mouth. Cutter has a make-shift 'flashlight' that provides for dim light. All enemies within 20' (40' for Lowlight) of Cutter/Benji are considered 'concealed', needing a flat check of DC 5 to be able to attack them unless you have Darkvision.

Eloric sighed as the Benji finished off the ghoul. It was a nasty thing. Usually ghouls came in a slightly less vicious type where he was from.  But maybe the lack of something more powerful has allowed them to grow stronger. Regardless, he waved everyone over, "If you're hurt, Stay close for a moment."

Once everyone in the party who was hurt was in range, he focused on his staff to release a burst of healing energy.

(Actions 1, 2, & 3 - Casts Heal from his staff. Long Healing Burst, everything in 30ft radius.)

Three Action Heal 1st Level: 1d8+8 = 13

Benji shook the undead viscera off his hand with a look of supreme disgust, though he sighed with relief when the healing wave washed over him. We bagged a ghoulie big-wig looks like. A shaman maybe? The kobold squatted down near Glorkus' corpse and started rifling through his belongings with one hand while keeping the torch aloft.

Cutter walks back into the room silently, then turns to face the party members in the room. Sorry about the moment of weakness guys definitely not the norm for me. then he continues to walk towards the barricaded entrance to the side tunnel. pausing to look down at the pile of bones on the crude alter. Eloric can figure out who's bones these are, they are clearly important. with that said Cutter walks the last couple steps to the barricade, What ya think Kayman, are we being paid to rescue kobold's? As he looks over the pile of debris blocking the way.

Eloric shrugs, "Not really my expertise, but I have some passing knowledge of identifying the dead." He walked over to the bones and started to inspect them,  "I'll need to study a bit more before I'm really skilled at this, but I'll see what I can make of it."

(Action - Medicine to identify how the being died. Needs a Recall Knowledge check to see if he can identify the creature or individual.)

Medicine Check for Forensics Study: 1d20+10 = 15

Well if we are going to rescue you I think some form of payment is in order, so why don't you tell us what you know about what's going on down here. Cutter waits for a reply before starting to move the pile of debris.

"Me and the girl thank you for the healer master mage!" Cade beams at Eloric.

"Did you say that ghouls are smart undead?" the halfling asks Benji as he enters the chamber to get a closer look. "That's a new one for me."

The druid looked over the crude altar to see if anything here spiked any memories rolling around he had about various religious rites.

Religion check on the altar: 21

Robsen lowers his bow and moves closer to the group to recieve the healing, and thanks Eloric for the healing energy.

Cutter moved back into the room and moved to where the barricade stood blocking entrance to a cave with scorched walls. He tried to peer into the cave but couldnt quite make out what was in there. Assuming it was a Kobold, he remarked to Khaymen about rescuing it...Chip at on his shoulder looing around in the cave, dimly lit. His acute night vision compensating.

Eloric called everyone into the cave the dead body was draped across the altar on, and with the Ghoul laying on the ground. After everyone joined him he held his staff up and a pulse of positive energy sped up everyones natural healing.

Cade Thanking Eloric, moved over and looked at the altar...identifying symbols as belonging to Kabriri, The Demon Lord of Gnolls, Graves, and Ghouls. Called 'He who Gnaws'. He did notice the corpse, little more than bones, wrapped in linens laying on the altar. Aquila followed the halfling and stood near the entrance to the shrine sniffing the air and clacking her mouth open and shut as she eyed the barricade.

Robsen moved closer and nodded at Eloric.

Holding the Torch up, Benji wiped the fluid and ghoul body parts off his hand upon the tunic the Ghoul Shaman wore as he glanced over the belongings seeing a Bone Unholy Symbol of a vermins head with sharpened teeth, worn and spoiled leather armor and a wand made of a rib bones topped with a bird skull. He and Eloric remarked about the Ghoul Shaman.

Khayman quietly walked in and looked at Cutter and shrugged, his wounds healed for the most part, though a few scratches remained.

Merika too walked in and looked at the barricade.

Behind the barricade a quaking voice could be heard saying Stop. make no moves to enter. The Fire Monster is near.  Zoduk no want to burn.

Robsen tries to find a gap in the barricade he can see through and possibly get a shoot at the voice in that room.

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
