Chapter 1: Hollows Last Hope
Arielle stares into the darkness…and finally spots movement (succeeded on Undetected Flat Check in roll20). She relays this information to Satoru and allows him to see through her eyes. It’s a bit disorienting, going from light to absolute darkness so quickly, but he sees the movement just as she does. But when he tries to pinpoint it, it seems to slide into the featureless background of the darkness (Hidden Flat Check fail).

Toryn continued to channel a bit of magic to grant his friends luck for as long as the spirits of the wild were willing, then tried to detect any remaining creatures in the darkness.

Action 1: Guidance on Arielle +1 to next roll
Action 2: Guidance on Lucian +1 to next roll

Oriana stood gulping in huge breaths of air and then from the gate she had open that noone but her could see a stream of salty water washed over her body, and bruises and bloody furrows from the monsters tentacle barbs were cleansed and partially healed. with a sigh and looking around, she could see Dunndero looking ragged just as she did. and she put a hand on his shoulder and closed her eyes and the same stream of salty water washed over him, bringing its healing. The odd thing was though the stream of water was apparent to everyone the floor was not wet...the water having soaked into the wounds. Then looking at the darkness and hearing the muffled sounds within ,,,she raised her shield again.

Dunndero gave thanks to Oriana and pulled the hand axe from his belt and entered the darkness even bloody and bruised as he was. heading til he stood next to Harley peering into the darkness he could hear noises but it all was pitch black to him. only bumping into someone or something could tell him something was there. He was navigating purely on hearing and touch.

Larz was panicking his breathing very ragged. he tried to pray but the words became garbled. With panic raging in his brain he swung the hammer with all the force he could manage into the body surrounding his head. He heard a loud crunch  and he swung it just as hard the second time. and the body became limp. blood pouring over his head and shoulders as the creature died and fell to the ground. He had felt both blows and he was sure his nose was broke but he was alive. He glanced at Harley who was looking up to the ceiling holding her mallet. and at Dunndero who stook a small hand axe in one hand, his larger axe in the other looking around tense  like he was blind.

Satoru moved up next to Arielle and they tried to look into the darkness, Arielle tried to explain to use ears and not eyes...as she cocked her head and listened acutely aware of approximately where everyone was. Satoru couldnt quite get it though.

The creatures clung to the ceiling trying to blend into the surroundings, flattening out as much as could, injured by things they thought were prey and turned out to be hurtful. Their thoughts not very full of depth they knew pain though....

Outside in the light, Lucian stared into the darkness ahead, trying to listen and hear...anything. ready to use his magic against them...

Breezy watched the stairs, ready...it didnt appear the Kobolds below were coming up...yet.

Harley leapt in the air swinging her hammer that barely missed the creature trying to hide on the roof. and hit the wall instead.

Toryn once again pulled the luck of the first world forward bestowing its gift on Arielle and Lucian this time.

It doesnt take long, with the creatures not fighting back for Harley and Larz to end their existence using the pews to to get a boost for harley to swing and larz using his magic.

and shortly thereafter the darkness ebbs and the world is back to normal...so to speak.

((ooc= hand waving the remainder of combat, because the fight has been taken out of the squiddies.))

When the darkness clears and Satoru sees what had caused everyone so much of a struggle, he says in an incredulous manner “What the actual flip were THOSE?!?”

Areille, though she does not understand a single thing Satoru said, can easily recognize his demeanor and manner.  She nods in solemn agreement and wipes the blood off her now-silky-smooth hands.  “Vistae’e comoseytu, tu un’sid.”  Those who also speak Sylvan know that her response was “Whatever they were, they are dead now."

The immediate threat dealt with Dunndero runs to check on Breezy and make sure the little green bastards were not taking advantage of the distraction.

Toryn blinked in surprise as the darkness suddenly receded and the room was visible again. He put his hands on his hips and sighed with relief. You know, there's only so much adventuring my delicate frame can handle in one day. It's a surefire way to work up an appetite though! The gnome approached one of the dead creatures and started prodding it with his shortsword. Now that the lights were back on, so to speak, he could study the thing more carefully. A squid-like creature that trapped prey in a net of darkness. Fascinating!

Toryn looks at the creature to think hes heard anything about them, now that he can see them...

These dark blue or black mollusk-like creatures have a similar appearance to an octopus, save that they have only six tentacles, all of which are connected by a thick leathery shroud. While darkmantle aren't a particularly good climber, they excel at clinging and can clutch onto a cave roof for days, patiently waiting to ambush any prey that walks below them with a disorienting blob of darkness. When clinging to a cave roof, and with their bulbous red eyes closed down to squints, darkmantles in ambush look similar to stalactites. Their preferred hunting method works best on creatures without darkvision, so they frequent ruins aboveground or shallow caves not far from the outside world. When darkmantles sense prey, they shed darkness down onto their prey before dropping away from the ceiling to flap quickly down to their victim, whereupon these beasts clutch and squeeze with their thick, muscular tentacles. Despite the shape of darkmantles, their bodies's texture is more like thick leather or even rubber—they can't cause damage with their spike-shaped bodies by dropping down onto other creatures.

Darkmantles have a swift life cycle—their young grow to maturity in a matter of months, and most of these creatures die of old age after living for only a few years. As a result, generations of darkmantles quickly accrue, and over the years, they've developed a similarly rapid propensity to adapt to new locations. Aquatic caverns, for example, might be infested with darkmantles that can swim instead of fly; on the other hand, icy caverns would've led to darkmantles that developed white or pale blue colorations, and these specimens might produce blasts of obscuring fog instead of darkness. The deepest, darkest reaches of the Darklands are rumored to host darkmantles of incredible size, capable of smothering multiple human-sized victims simultaneously. These deep-dwelling darkmantles have the capacity to shed more powerful darkness that can plunge even creatures with darkvision into inky blackness— darkness in which these deep-dwelling creatures can, of course, still see well within.

As the darkness fades and light returns anyone looking into the room sees a dwarven cleric that looks like he went 10 rounds with a pissed off Over. He has the same scratches and bruising that everyone else has as well as a broken nose, two black eyes and the left side of his jaw is very swollen and turning a deep purple. Before Dundero takes off to check on Toryn, Larz bows his head in prayer. Trudd grant us your gift of healing that we may finish cleansing this place of evils stain.

After casting heal on his new friends Larz leans over and whispers to Hardly. I'm hoping that maybe the whole world don't have to be hearing about the crazy dwarf you watch kick his own ass with his hammer.

It was a heroic act if ever I'd seen one friend dwarf, Harley said offering her stout companion a wink, before turning to look about the chapel proper, have we searched this room entirely or were you interrupted before you could begin?

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
