Chapter 1: Hollows Last Hope
The hallway was cramped and Toryn's previous stab wound still throbbed with pain. Rushing recklessly into the dark while an unknown amount of hungry beasts were lurking about was not the wisest course of action. Instead the gnome gathered a bit of primal energy and sent it towards Dunndero, and, after fumbling about in the dark trying to pinpoint Orianna's presence, he managed to invest a mote of luck to her as well.

Action 1: Casting Guidance on Ori: Orianna Flat Check: 1d20 1 =failed
Action 2: Casting Guidance on Ori again: Ori Flat check 2: 1d20 6 = success
Action 3: Casting Guidance on Dunndero: Flat Check: 1d20 15 = success

(OOC: Ori and Dunndero get a +1 status bonus to one attack roll, Perception check, saving throw, or skill check before Toryn's next turn)

“I can’t see a thing!”

Arielle sighs with frustration, grabs him by the shoulders, and pulls him behind her.  Whatever was in that room would not have any struggles romping all over his soft hide.

Then she stares into the blackness, still trying to spot…something.

Actions:

Act Together: 2 actions
Action 1+2: Satoru and Arielle switch places (flavored as her pulling him aside)
Action 3: Arielle attempts a flat DC…nope.

Oriana strained against the squid-like creatures holding her and could not escape their grasp, so she grabbed a tentacle and pulled the heat from her its body as she pulled energy from the gate. It shook at her touch quivering.

Dunndero moves out of the constraining hallway into the foyer and after searching for the creatures, he reached out and grabbed a tentacle of one and pulled it loose, holding onto it and pulling it out of the darkness. for Harley to see.

Straining to see the creatures, Larz yells for someone to pull Oriana out of the darkness, and then sends a volley of silvered needles into one of them flying around.

Arielle moves forward getting next to Oriana pulling Satoru away, and looks into the darkness trying to notice what has her and cannot see them, such is the affect of their strange inky darkness.

Larz fended off one of the flying squids creatures, but the other lashed out with a tentacle and because his shield was raised it wrapped around his shield and squeezed....causing the metal to start to bend. and started squeezing.

The Darkmantle that Oriana pulled heat from, loosened its hold and tried to escape the dreadful cold and flew up towards the ceiling, acting instinctively.

As Dunndero grabbed a tentacle and pulled the other released its hold on Oriana and tried to grab ahold of the offending creature holding it. and tentacles reached for the Half-Orc grabbing him and squeezing him . Oriana was released but now one had a solid grasp on Dunndero who pulled it out of the darkness into the light where everyone could see it. However the pain shooting through him was sharp and he could feel the air being squeezed from his lungs.

Lucian shouts to find Harley, and hearing her he heads out through the courtyard towards her, passing Breezy as well who said he would guard. He ran up holding out a potion of darkness for her to drink.

Breezy moved back to the blocked stairway down.

Harley now seeing the creature grabbing ahold of Dunndero, who was turning bright green from being squeezed by the monster, moved forward and smashed her hammer one handed into the creature, still holding the vial Lucian gave her. She did not have a lot of force behind the blow though.

Toryn gave the primal energy from the first world to Dunndero and Oriana manifested to give them some luck on their next action.

(So with this fight we will be learning the rules about the degrees of detection and senses...and lighting.

  • Unnoticed- Unaware of presence. need a perception check vs DC 17 in this case, to make the creatures Undetected.
  • Undetected- You are flat footed against them. (or vice versa if they dont detect you). Can guess which square they are in to target. need to succeed vs DC 11 flat check. A seek action first can make the creature Hidden if successful.---supposed to be a secret check. and cannot use area effect spells vs
  • Hidden- You are flat-footed against them. need to succeed vs DC 11 flat-check to target. A seek action can make them Observed if successful. can use area effect spells and isnt secret.
  • Observed- actions as normal.
  • Concealed- need a successful DC 5 flat check to target. A seek action can make them observed if they can be.)

Dunndero having pulled one of the creatures off Oriana towards himself in the light, was taken a little by surprise when the creature turned its tentacles on him and started squeezing the life from him. In desperation he looked around trying g to keep the creature and its mates in his view, and feeli g his consciousness begin to slip from the pressure of his body dug into his inner reserves of strength, suddenly flexing all his muscles at once, thereby breaking the monsters hold of him, shouting " Get off me, and take this!", followed by a desperate swing of his battleaxe that just hit, with a load meaty kathunk as his axe bit deep into its side.

Oriana gasps for breath as the two creatures detach from her, one flying upwards away and the other being wrestled off her by Dun.

Taking one deep breath, the young woman focused on the sound of the leathery wings flapping up and away from her and aimed an icy blast of water at it, hoping to finish the job but even with Breezy's primal magics helping her she heard the water on the stone above and nothing from the creature.

Now free to move, Oriana steps backwards out of the room and finds blissful light once more and moves south down the corridor to allow others into the chapel if they so desire.

Sight restored, Oriana looks down to see her body bleeding from many lacerations from the creatures barbed tentacles and anyone looking at her could see an incredibly red and painful looking bruise all around her neck from the creature's constriction, it still causing Oriana to breath in ragged, hacking breaths.

Actions:
1st & 2nd: Flat check to observe. 1d20=18. Elemental Blast (cold) 1d20+8=13 Miss.
3rd: Stride out of darkness and south a square or two in the corridor. (Can't move my token on roll20, if you wouldn't mind)

Lucian focuses on darkness, trying to hear where the things might be. Try as he might the wizard senses absolutely nothing and can't get an idea of where the damn things are in that murk.

(Action 1 - Step toward the door so he can see inside the room)
(Action 2 - Seek Action to locate the Darkmantles.)
(Action 3 - Maintain Spell. Refreshes Shield.)

Seek Action Perception Check: 1d20+5 = 8

On seeing the creature that had caused the chaos in the darkness, Satoru and Arielle have different simultaneous reactions. Satoru looks decidedly grossed-out by the tentacley thing. Arielle just puts her game-face on, steps up to it, and as her arm turns into petrified bark studded with sharpened amber, she slashes it nearly to ribbons.

Act Together 3 actions
Satoru: looks disgusted
Arielle: Stride up to visible Darkmantle and casts Gouging Claw at it for 7 damage.
