Chapter 1: Hollows Last Hope
When Lucian hears Oriana, he immediately turns and rushes to assist.  He stays next to Toryn, until he can see the situation. 


(Action 1&2 - Recall Knowledge to know if the Darkvision potion will help see through this magical darkness.)
(Action 3 - Casts Shield, +1 AC, Shield Reaction 5)

Breezy pulls back from the edge of the darkness, and says "I will keep an eye to make sure the kobolds don't flank us." With that the small druid moves to the doorway of the room with the semi-blockaded door.

1-2 Moving to the door.

Oriana quickly tried to counter the darkness by opening a gate to the elemental planes and call forth fire to light her way...the limited power of her magic though could not penetrate the inky darkness that surrounded her.

Dunndero heard Oriana's cry that they needed help, and he dropped his side of the rack and pushed past Harley pausing at the edge of the darkness where he could see a shoulder of Oriana's and one leg sticking out of the darkness. he paused and listened intently...and could hear the opening of leathery wing like body parts and slight scraping of talons on the ceiling and new the dark was 'monster related' now all he had to do is know where they would be...

At the Altar, Larz's eyes adjust to the darkness and he can see in grayscale the room. People often thought the darkvision of his people and others could make out heat...not so. It was just still gathering even the radiation put out by everything into a form of light, after all...that was still in the spectrum of energy. It allowed him to see in black and white and every shade of gray inbetween. he looked around but didnt notice anything that caught his eyes. That made him consider what could have dropped those globes of blackness that exploded into the dark room he was trapped in now, and he had no idea....something he hadnt heard of or maybe forgotten about? So he raised his shield and took a defensive stance.

Satoru ran as as fast as he could around the corner to stop behind Dunndero (2 stride actions) Arielle was slower to respond and was moving through the wolf den a little behind Satoru. Satoru looked on at the dakrness ahead and he too noticed parts of oriana sticking out of it...but neither he nor Dunndero could make out the flame in Oriana's hand. He tried to wipe the inky blackness away with some minor magics, but it had no effect.

almost as quiet as the dead, the chapel saw the unfolding of a leathery body with membranes between tentacles on their small frames as they glided and halfway flew towards their targets. Two going towards Oriana, 2 towards Larz. The difference was, Larz saw them as they came into view coming down from the ceiling to try and grab him with their tentacles...while Oriana did not. however she could feel the slight breeze on her face from their psuedo wings and felt their tentacles grab at her body. knowing their was one right inside the room, and one outside it near her. The one just inside the room lashed out with tentacles as it neared her, grabbing ahold of her and wrapping around her arm and shoulder. and began to squeeze a cascade of water poured around her deflecting part of the attack from it and it compatriot keeping her barely awake.. She felt air being pushed from her lungs as the tentacles wrapped around her. The second grabbed her around her other arm and around her neck and squeezed and her blacking out was only stopped by the water pouring out of the gate she had opened. 

The other two assaulted Larz who had his shield up. and as they flew towards him he interposed his shield and their tentacles found no way to grab his body and they both flew past and with a flap of their membranes moved back closer to the 15' tall ceiling of the chapel. Still able to be struck from below, they were trying to reposition to make another run at the stout dwarven cleric.

Lucien called up his shield of force and raised it before moving out of the room into the room where the desk had been.

Something about the darkness and the water splashing out and onto the floor and the grunts and gasps of Oriana spooked The Leshy thinking this would be the perfect time for the Kobolds to asssault and he ran heading towards where the room that they had barricaded the stairs at. Of course with the darkness blocking the easy way, he had to go around out into the courtyard first. He hadnt quite reached the armory door yet. When Harley seeing the jam up in the hallway headed towards him. 

Harley ran right past Breezy and through the courtyard, coming up to the main doors of the Monastery . She could see Orianas arms flailing in and out of the darkness and leathery tentacles wrapped around those arms. also splashing water was bouncing over the flagstones. out of the darkness.

The Gnome moved past both Lucien and Arielle and stood at the corner looking at the darkness and knew this was something primal . Magic coming from the natural world and was a source of something predatory. Normal light would not penetrate it, nor would magical unless it was far more potent than the creatures.

Lucien wasnt in the hall yet, having paused to prepare defenses, but he could hear the Gnome speaking absentmindenly as was his want...and he thought to himself that the potion of darkvision would allow someone to see within the inky blackness.

(So with this fight we will be learning the rules about the degrees of detection and senses...and lighting. 

  • Unnoticed- Unaware of presence. need a perception check vs DC 17 in this case, to make the creatures Undetected. 
  • Undetected- You are flat footed against them. (or vice versa if they dont detect you). Can guess which square they are in to target. need to succeed vs DC 11 flat check. A seek action first can make the creature Hidden if successful.---supposed to be a secret check. and cannot use area effect spells vs
  • Hidden- You are flat-footed against them. need to succeed vs DC 11 flat-check to target. A seek action can make them Observed if successful. can use area effect spells and isnt secret.
  • Observed- actions as normal.
  • Concealed- need a successful DC 5 flat check to target. A seek action can make them observed if they can be.)

As she moved to the entry of the chapel, Harley's gaze was assaulted by the darkness from which she could only catch glimpses of arms entangled in what looked like inky black tentacles. Some help people, I can't see shit here and have no idea what to do about this. 

DC 11 Check: 1d20 9

Action 1: Looking for something to hit. 
Action 2: Seeing only darkness with sporadic chaos, she readies herself for an attack.
Action 3: Will make an attack under the condition that the critter becomes visable.

Oriana struggles to fend off the monsters wrapping her, but all her flailing does is make them constrict tighter and tighter, her mouth covered she knew she would be starting to black out if her vision was not already completely gone.

Trying a different tact she channels icy cold into her hands as she grasps one of the leathery things and tries to freeze it off.

Actions:
1st: Escape. 1d20+9=10 Critical Fail, can't escape again this turn.
2nd & 3rd: Elemental Blast (cold). Flat check to find enemy 1d20=19. Attack 1d20+2=22 Crit! (1d8+4)x2=12 cold damag

"Wut ever is attacking Oriana is hiding in this damned darkness!", shouts Dunndero as he peers into the darkness trying to discern where to attack

Actions:
1. Seek Action: - peers into the darkness to determine location of monsters. DC 11 Flat Check = [1d20]=17 =17 (Success)
2. Move Action: Stride to creature nearest him, while trying to stay visible as possible to his allies.
3. Grab Attack: Dunnder reaches into the darkness and grabs a leathery wing. Athletics Check=[1d20+7]=14+7=21 (Success = grappled)

" I gota hold of one of the damned things! Strike just to the side of me an ya should hit it!", shouts Dunndero to his friends.

knowing that only he and Dundero can see these creatures Larz  stands his ground pulling a silver coin from his pouch he launches a fist full of needles at the creature to his left, as he yells Someone pull Oriana from this cursed darkness.

Lucian rushes forward trying to spot the Barbarian after she called for assistance, "Harley!" Lucian called to figure out where the woman was.

Come out through the courtyard! Harley yelled back to Lucian, catching snippets of Oriana's limbs flailing with the tentacles in the darkness.

Once he hears her, Lucian rushes around through the courtyard, then passes the potion to Harley once he spots her., "Quaff this! It will help you see through the darkness!  When you can see her, try and pull Oriana out of that muck! Or at least beat the hell out of whatever has ahold of her!"


(Action - passes the Darkvision Potion to Harley. If tossing invokes a check of any sort, he moves and hands it to her.)
