Missing Caravan
After assisting the injured guard up onto Beast, all of you begin to follow the tracks left by the Kobolds.  For the most part following the critter's trail is not too difficult.  The previous nights rains made the ground soft and the shear number of Kobolds and humans make it pretty clear which route they took along the river's edge.  Around an hour into your hike, the tracks starts to become a little more difficult to follow when they veer away from the river and move into an area with steeper hills and thicker foliage.  The rest of this day's journey is a little slower but uneventful.  You find a suitable place to camp and begin setting up for the night.

"We should obviously set up a watch schedule again. I will gladly take any shift, so if anyone else has particular needs or desires for their rest period, let us work it out now," Jonath says as he begins setting up camp.

"Selina, you're with me.  I need my health back."  Says Mardak.  He goes and finds a rock to set his pack then his head.  "If we get attacked again, tough shit, they're gonna have to wait to die!!"

The guard looks at Selina and privately asks, "Is it normal for the loudmouth to order you around?  If it's not, then with or without wounds, I will happily put him in his place."  Selina can see that even though the guard's body is still battered, he is fully willing to fulfill his oath to her.

Meanwhile, the rest of you set up your tents and figure out the order of the watch.

Selina tests the weather and surrounding atmosphere against her (albeit extensive) knowledge of medicine and determines that the cooler temperatures will improve the body's natural tendency to heal itself, at the cost of an increased chance of hypothermic reaction. The latter should be relatively simple to resolve, as the injured men in this party can simply wear multiple insulative layers loosely, provided they do not touch their wounds overmuch. She is broken from her thoughts by the guardsman speaking, and gives him a shrug and a little grin.

"Oh, he gets that way sometimes. I believe his place is with our beguiler in any case. Master Mardak, your wounds are not sufficient for intensive treatment, simply rest through the night and I will awaken you and Miss Betimi at the appropriate time. And I do mean 'rest' this time. Those bloodsuckers took quite a lot of fluids from you that you will need to recoup."

Betimi sets up her small tent and unloads Beast, tethering him to a nearby tree.  She makes sure Beast gets fed before digging out her own rations, then digs out a second meal, taking ity to the guard.

She hands him the waxed parchment holding hard tack and jerky.

"Here sir, it may not be very palatable, but it will keep hunger at bay."

She then settles in near the fire, her black eyes reflecting the light as she  nibbles at her food.

"Selina is correct of course Mardak. You will not regain your health unless you rest properly."

"Eh?  Whaaa?"  He says to Betimi as if interrupted in something.  "Yes I know.  I know she is.  Lemme look at my girls okay?"  His eyes go back to the stars.  He places his hands behind his head and rests.

Not quite understanding how Mardak can see the stars when it is not even dark yet Betimi looks confused.

She decides not to ponder it and just digs out her blanket and covers Mardak up so he doesn't get too chilled, then looks to the guard.

"You can rest in my tent. We do not want the cold to undo all of Selina's hard work.  I will rest by the fire."

With Betimi, it was a moment to be mischievous, but he lets it pass.  "Thanks for the covers darlin'."

"You are welcome sir Mardak, you need to keep warm. It will be hours yet before I lay down to rest. I'll get it back then."

As she turns back to the fire, she pauses and frowns briefly, brows furrowing like someone said something annoying.

Then abruptly she giggles, before immediately scowling again.

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
