Missing Caravan

It's up to you how you want to play this but I thought that was the reason for the sneaky/darkvisiony people moving first.

[OoC the idea was to sneak ahead and take up positiions where we would not be silhouetted/revealed by our zllies as they passed.  thought that would be common sense..  not hide in plain sight.
Is it possible to flatten against the wall so we are not silhouetted?]

Exactly.

OoC: Except the walls are not rough enough to hide along.  There are 1' beams (as shown on the map) that help support the passageways but they would provide little in the way of cover to hide behind once the Kobolds approached closer, which they would certainly do as soon as any of them spotted even the faintest flicker of light.  You have to remember, the Kobold told you that they are waiting to ambush anyone who crosses the bridges.  They have a couple of Kobolds watching the passage where you are, just in case you didn't take the bridge, but they are currently distracted by a metal statue (New Player) that was just unearthed.  A torches light is 20'/40'.  From where you are standing now, as soon as you light a torch, the Kobolds to the north will likely spot the shadowy illumination and realize you are approaching from the south.  Unreth will likely send a good chunk of his protectors south to fight you which means the people hidden behind the 1' pillars won't be be able to hide much longer because to anyone with darkvision Jonath and Betimi will stick out like a sore thumb.  This is one of the reasons I hate Darkvison.  Dodgy   It would be like them trying to hide behind a 1' pillar in broad daylight.  It's just a matter of how close do the Kobolds get before noticing them.

[OoC: Well... pushing on..]

While you're wondering what to do next the Kobolds who are preoccupied by the metal statue hear a broken metallic noise coming from its head a faint flicker of light emanating deep in its eye sockets.  Uncertain what to do, one of the Kobolds pokes at the body with the butt of his spear while the others yak among themselves.  One of the Kobolds then run off to the north.

[Concurrently @Forge ...]

You feel a weight be lifted off your chest you wake up just enough to hear quiet 'yapping' noises all around you.  You attempt to activate your visual sensors but unfortunately all you see is darkness so you're unsure if it's just dark or if you're still entombed within rock.  Having no clue where you are or how long you've been trapped, you desperately try to call out to the strange noises that sound to you like some kind of speech, but all you can utter is a raspy metallic noise.  This almost takes all you're strength...

Forge will try to move or lift the weight off him.  Then, he focuses in on the yapping speech, listening for patterns, for inflections that humanoids use for relating emotions, does this sound like a dog or anything familiar?  Forge wonders if he has ever heard this before.  = 20+3 = 23]Knowledge (dungeoneering, nature, arcana) they are all the same +3, whichever would apply or not.

OOC - can Nacesh see all this happening? If so...

Nacesh braces himself, seeing a sudden opportunity to win the kobolds' trust. If the curious little bastards awoke something dangerous then it may be better fighting it off on their side than the other way...
Seeing the necessity to act fast and trying to use the distraction as well he sneaks closer...
Sneak closer (Move silently [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6 Hide [1d20+3] = 10+3 = 13)

As he kicks a pebble quite loudly into a wall he knows his cover is blown so he quickens his pace to get closer to the kobolds, hands held high, addressing them in draconic.
"Careful with that... thing. We are friends and I am your cousin in dragon's blood. Friends of Piper and we wish to help you reclaim your home and save your families and your tribe. With your agreement I will translate your words so all my companions understand; or we can all use the common tongue if you prefer."

Forge listens carefully and he believes he recognizes the whispering as a primitive version of dragonic which Kobolds use.  Unfortunately, despite always wanting to learn a couple of languages, you never got around to it, so you don't have any idea what they are saying.  [OoC: You only speak Common Undecided ]

Nacesh hears one Kobold run away making no attempt to sneak which makes you think there must be something important going on around that corner.  You try to move a little closer to get a better listen when your foot bumps a pebble causing it to clack against the wall and echo in the dead silence very loudly.  Cursing his clumsiness under his breath, Nacesh jumps into action.  He rushes a few steps north past Jonath and begins to speak just loud enough to the Kobolds to try to get their attention.  [OoC: I don't know if you sneaked north with a torch or not.  I am going to assume since you said you have both hands up and never mentioned a torch that you cannot see their reaction...]

Jonath whispers, "What the frag are you doing?  The Kobold around the corner and the Kobold who was running away are now pointing their spears at you!"

Jonath nor Betimi mention it yet but they notice the two Kobold's standing guard to the north hasn't been alerted to Nacesh's gambit [Diplomacy=20] because they are watching the bridges to the east.  But if either of them happen to glance to the south they will spot what's going and will likely alert the rest of the Kobolds that the group is sneaking in the back way.

Jonath and Betimi sees the Kobold who was running to the north pads closer.  They press themselves as tightly against the wall as possible.  Neither kobold seem to notice them them yet.  When the one kobold about 10' away the kobold yaps quietly in common, "How you going to help save homes and family?  Unreth will devour you all!"

Forge begins detecting more whispering close by but this time they are speaking common so he can understand what is being said.

Selina trusts them (either Nacesh or the kobolds who understand Common) to translate her words.

"We understand your concerns.  But please understand that Unreth recently ran away from us and we seek to finish it off.  The creature has caused too much pain and torment to too many for us to stop trying and now we know we can harm it."

Ooc- can Forge tell if he is still buried or free enough to move around in the dark?

Forge reaches out in the darkness for a wall and touches his eyes to make sure there is nothing covering his face. More voices. He's not sure if they are in his mind or real this time..

"Who goes there?" He calls out and waits for a response. He will owe whoever freed him a debt of life, whether that was kobolds or these others. It didn't matter to him.

Not yet discovered Betimi listens and watches, waiting to see how the diplomatic method plays out.

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
