Missing Caravan
(08-15-2016, 08:59 AM)GM Marvel Wrote: [OoC:  This doesn't appear to be a spell effect.  It looks very real to you.  You know that the Spider would need to be quite the powerful illusionist to create a phantasm of this size.  It hasn't shown power of this magnitude.  The first illusion you saw where Kobolds were hanging from the ceiling was soundless so it was probably just a Silent Image.]

OOC - and the displacement or whatever she used for concealment on the ceiling

Nacesh tries hard to keep his concentration on the surroundings while emotionally calling out for Mil once again (OOC he hasn't return yet, has he?).
"Might be sonic, but more likely another kobold trap. Never underestimate dragonkind."

He tries to locate which tunnel the painful cries echoed from, though he knows how slim his chances are in a complex like this, reverberating sounds all around.

[OoC: For some reason I couldn't open up Nacesh's character sheet.  I kept getting a 'Waiting...' message.  So I'm not sure if Nacesh has the right skill.  Betimi does though...

OoC2:  The miss chance for the spider wasn't from any magical displacement effects.  It was from being in the shadowed area of the light which grants concealment and the mass of webs the creature was hiding behind. ]

The dust slowly begins to dissipate allowing you all to breath a little better.  When Nacesh concentrates, he senses Mil's fear as the little lizard pops his head out from between some rocks.  His tongue licks at the air then he bolts for it's master and quickly climbs up his leg, over his torso and then stops on Nacesh's shoulder.

As each of you consider what could have happened Betimi remembers something she once read.  There has been witnesses who have reported a similar set of effects over the centuries.  The last time it happened was five years ago in a neighboring kingdom.  It affected the entire region and resulted in something the Sages called a Planar Convergence.  Basically another universe was pressing against this universe.  The noises you all heard were from the other Universe as it begins to crack the Planar boundaries.  If that's what's happening here and the cracks turn into a rift then you all could be in serious danger.

Nacesh listens to Betimi and shrugs.
"If it rains, be happy. Even if you are unhappy it rains regardless."
With that he presses on, trying to radiate some encouraging thoughts. (OOC - considering his 19 charisma maybe he can rally the others' spirits a little)

"We've nothing else to do about it but press on. We are here to destroy that creature, so that is what we shall do."

Selina decides to keep pressing on behind Jonath and Betimi.

"I suspect that was something far beyond anything going on in these caves," Jonath says slowly as he shakes his head, recovering from the cacophony. "But Selina is right, whatever it was, we'll have to deal with it later. We've a mission to do, and we need to see it to completion as soon as possible. Come, lets move on." He continues north along the river, a little more quickly now, though still as carefully as he can manage.

Looking up at the caves while trying to protect his eyes from falling debris, Gilley winces at the noise. "Greeeeeeaaattt." he responds to Betimi's explanation. "I have no idea what you're talking about, but it doesn't sound like my idea of fun." He follows the others.

"I am no sage," Betimi replies to Giley.  "I've only heard stories.  Some fantastical like the beautiful forest of Glimmerfolk seemingly pulled directly from the Plane of Radiance and others truly terrifying like when the entire city of Gaxmoor, including its inhabitants was lost in a blink of an eye as if it had never existed.  Doesn't sound like much fun to me either but what Nacesh states has much wisdom.  The multi-verse will do as it wills and we must learn to deal with it or get out of its way."

Jonath moves another 15' when he hears more whimpering.  His eyes attempt to focus on whatever is making the noise through the slowly dissipating cloud of dust when he spots a single green Kobold pinned under some rocks.  It looks badly injured with blood dripping from its muzzle.  It attempts to lift a small crossbow to defend itself but it tumbles from it's hand and clatters on the ground.  Obviously the Kobold is in too much pain to even hold the weapon.  Hearing the noise, the rest of you arrive on the scene.  The creature hisses weakly at all of you.

Wincing slightly at the state of the little kobold, Gilley leans down toward it. At its hiss, he makes a hissing noise back, then carefully tries to move the rocks off without hurting the kobold more.

((OOC: No, he does not speak kobold. He probably said "TAXES!" or something equally ridiculous.))

As Gilley begins to dig the injured kobold free, Betimi is is intensely aware of the danger they are in so moves just past the rubble pile that trapped the small creature and readies a shard to hurl at the first sign of danger. Her pupil-less eyes glimmer as she turns her head slightly back and forth, scanning the tunnel ahead for any signs of change.

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
