In true Star Wars Solo/Skywalker "Meaningful Name" style, I was thinking of Nova's name as meaning both "New" and "New Star" (since she is a pilot), especially when paired with her first name, whose literal translation from French is "Truth."
So, "New Truth" primarily, but also "True New Star", to suggest both the idea that Nova became disillusioned with the Empire and is now "Woke", and the idea that Nova has now found her "true north" and her new/true guiding purpose in life, in fighting to overthrow the Empire and fighting for the ideals of the rebellion! Haha, I clearly got super geeky into character creation! :-D
(I did study Latin in middle-school and high-school, and had considered going all Latin for her full name, but "Veritas" didn't have the same ring to it!)

It's funny that Mando'a should come up as well, as I had thought of having Mandalore be Nova's homeworld. What with Sabine Wren already being a prominent Mandalorian though, I chose Nar Shaddaa for Nova — a lawless crime-ridden planet to provide her greater reason to initially embrace the Empire!
