Missing Caravan
Nacesh stays calm through Ohma's briefing and accepts the bolts with a brief nod.
(OOC - assume he receives the wand as well just like someone recommended earlier. otherwise he has no idea of its existence in the first place)
Upon receiving the wand, though, he raises his eyebrows, appreciatively.
"Fine wand. Do we know its command word by any chance?"

Listening intently to the action plan, he offers,
"I can make someone as small as Jonath for a minute. Or Jonath even smaller, just in case that would facilitate the task."

"A map would do fine, you do not need to join us, we just need to know where to go," Jonath says to Piper. After Nacesh speaks, he turns to him to reply. "An interesting idea, but it's probably best if I go alone. No offense to the rest of you, but armed and armored as you are, the chance of being discovered only increases. Besides, if something does go wrong, at least it will be only me that's lost." He seemed very casual about that last bit, but then he seemed calm about most things, in their experience.

As they approach the hallway indicated by Piper, he motions the rest of them to stop. "I will disable the trap as quickly as I can, then return to you here so we can make our assault." With that, he moves into the small hallway, fading into the shadows. He creeps along careful, keeping a keen eye out for traps beyond the one he knows about. As he enters the cavern beyond, he sticks to the wall as he searches for the mechanism to disable the shifting floor. Once found, he disengages it as quickly and quietly as possible, then moves immediately back out of the cavern towards his waiting companions.

Hide:[1d20+14] = 5+14 = 19; Move Silently:[1d20+13] = 5+13 = 18; Search:[1d20+8] = 18+8 = 26; Disable device:[1d20+6] = 20+6 = 26

Betimi's eyes narrow suspiciously at Piper wishing to be left behind, she moves closer to Ohma, ostensibly to help the woman don her armour and whispers.

[b]"This may yet be a trap, remember the child also seems enthralled, so watch them both very carefully. Arming may yet be a ruse to gain our trust and get us to leave the captives while we head into a greater danger. I hope I am just seeing ghosts in the mist, but please remain alert."[/]

She then follows the others.

When Nacesh offers to shrink one of the party members, she seems about to accept when Jonath interrups.. so instead she will position herself just at the edge of the teeter-totter trap.. crossbow loaded and ready, in case she should hear Jonath get into trouble.

Ohma listens to Betimi and whispers, "I don't trust any of them. One kobold being trustworthy is possible but a whole tribe? That's practically unheard of in my studies. That being said, Powwaw tried to send Mardak but he refused. So if he leads you to the trapped passage that will leave me alone to defend all these people. Don't you think someone should stay back and help me? If not the kobold then who. I'm open to suggestions so I'm not stuck here with a suspiciously friendly kobold!"

[OoC: At this point, the only light source you have is from the Everburning torch unless someone lights another torch or casts a light spell.]

"I will take the size reduction," Mardak replies.  "Jonath will need protection and since I'm the best warrior here it should be me leading him into the unknown."

Tomeal again ignores Mardak's jab but says, "Mardak can't see in the dark.  A light source will instantly alert all enemies that they are sneaking through the wall."  He then speaks quietly to Ohma trying to bolster her confidence and to keep an eye on Piper even though for the moment he trusted the Kobold more than distrusted him.

Piper will then reply to Nacesh, "The command word for the wand is, Visseras"  [Vis-EAR-us]

[When the party is ready to go...]

Jonath leads the group back to the room with the thin passage.  Jonath (and possibly someone who takes the potion) begin to squeeze their way through what barely amounts to be a crack in the wall.  There are a few spots where Jonath thinks he might get stuck but he manages to wiggle his body though with minimal scrapes.

As Jonath comes to the the end of the crack in the wall, he sees it opens up into a huge cavern with it's walls covered in spider web.  To the east is a wide chasm that has a 20' long wood and rope bridge, patched with more webbing, spanning across.  At his current angle he can't see what's on the other side of the chasm.  He will have to fully step into the cavern to get a look at what's beyond.  The rest of the cavern has four oval columns of stone that reach from floor to ceiling, set in no particular pattern.  More webs cling to these structures obscuring visibility of everything, including the walls.  The Spider has obviously had quite some time to prepare for intruders.  To the west Jonath can hear what sounds like the faint sounds of running water.

OOC - it's not a potion; it's a scroll. Just in case someone wishes to benefit from it I assume either Nacesh or someone with Use Magic Device must recite it.

Moving carefully, Jonath proceeds towards the larger entrance tunnel, trying to split his attention between the room itself and the walls near the tunnel, in order to find the mechanism to disable the tipping floor. He certainly didn't relish the though of going any further than he had to without his companions.

Jonath steps out of the crack in the wall and begins slowly moving west.  He notices, with all the walls and pillars covered in webbing, the cavern almost looked like it was cloaked in snow.  Everything was eerily quiet until his keen eyes spot some movement to the east.  Still creeping toward the Trap while trying to make out what his eyes are showing him, Jonath bumps his head into the handle at the same time as he realizes that it was better Piper didn't join the group.  Beyond the rope and wood bridge, Jonath sees scores of Kobolds of all ages clinging from the ceiling in partial web cacoons.  Their faces were uncovered but frozen in grimaces of horror.  From this distance he can't tell if they are alive or dead.

Refocusing on the task at hand, he scrutinizes the handle which disarms the trap.  All seemed as Piper had described it.  All Jonath needed to do was pull the handle.

[OoC: Hide: 26, Move Silently: 31 and Spot: 6Search: 17]

Assuming that Jonath pulls the lever, everyone can hear a grinding noise for a few seconds like stone on stone then a sudden 'clunk' sound.  Jonath peers around the corner at the party and waves for them to move toward him down the short tunnel.

Tomeal looks at everyone, especially Gilley (because he's new to the group) and says, "Everyone ready?"  He takes a deep breath and adds, "I guess there's no time like the present."  Tomeal then begins to slowly walk down the hallway like he's expecting to get splatted but he makes it to the other side where Jonath is hiding with no problems.

[OoC: @Jonath, if you want to do anything else like more skill checks then just let me know and I will backtrack a little for you.]

[OoC: Spoiler is the map.  All areas that are light blue or have X's have thick webbing where you could get stuck.  The Ceiling of the entire cavern is also covered in webbing.  The Pink dots are Kobolds hanging from the ceiling covered in more webbing.]

Betimi moves forward, crossbow readied. She moves ahead to the square just in front of the trap section, hoping to maximize her sight-lines, and area that she can fire. She then whispers, "He's hiding here somewhere, that rope bridge is a trap."

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
