The First Mission - (Chapter 1)
#71
I know some of it, He admitted, then gestured to Nolan to explain the rest to him. He wasn't planning on hurting or even intimidating a member of the intelligence community, those people went through a ton of intense anti-terrorism and interrogation techniques, so anything Khayman could do would more then likely prove fruitless. But on the other hand, where Aaron, Marcus, and Veigo were concerned, the Sergeant was well, for him anyway, within his rights to beat the living shit out of anyone he considered a threat to his little brothers.
#72
Viego eyes the exchange between Sargent, the trio, and the new officer. He wasn't sure what was going on. He knew there was a lot of politics involved in the Coalition military, but he hadn't really paid a lot of attention to it. He considered for a moment that he probably should be, and reminded himself to ask Marcus and Aaron about it later to see what they knew and thought. After all Marcus was probably paying attention and Aaron always knew more than most people thought, hell usually more than Aaron was even aware he knew.

"There isn't much to explain. I was sent to assess your trainees for the taint of magic. Which is why I went to the psi-stalkers, because it is the veracity of their reports that is being questioned. My guess is that someone thinks that having raised the men since childhood, the psi-stalkers might have too much attachment for objective reporting. You are their drill sergeant as well as their friend. It would be a fair assumption that you are not entirely objective either, but I hazard a guess that is a good thing. A commanding officer that cares for his men will not put them in harms way needlessly."

"So far I have no cause for concern, but I have been here less than thirty minutes."

"I have no ill will toward your charges. At this point I am more curious who is doubting the psi-stalkers reports,m and why."

"Do you have any other concerns, or shall I get back to work?"
#74
I have plenty of concerns, but by all means continue, Khayman said at last, before turning and walking toward the exit. His helmet turning to toward Marcus, he said, Show them exactly what they came to see Brand.

Stopped just inside the tunnel leading out, he turned and waited for Kora and her girls to continue their work.

---Khayman---

(DM - Roll Military Etiquette)

---Everyone---

Kora nods to Meris who in then turns and gestures for Marcus to step into the training arena. Kora and Lyn follow him carrying what looks like a VERY large two-handed Vibro-sword. It's so large it took both women to carry it.  They set it blade down in the dirt beside Marcus.

Meris gestures toward a decommissioned SAMAS' power armor standing just away from the targets that Viego was blasting.

Marcus walks up to stand next to Meris.  When the others bring him the sword he picks it up with as much ease as if someone handed him a pocket knife.   He leaps toward the SAMA's and slices the thing toward it's middle.

Sword Strike Damage: 6d6 = (26) x10 = 260

---Nolan---

Before Nolan walks away to speak to Khayman, the Psi-Stalker named Kora nods to him after he addressed her.

"Understood sir. She was just testing all of them to see if they would handle certain types of pressure. For Aaron it was to see if he could do his job when Meris was moments from bleeding to death.  For Marcus and Viego, it was to see if they would hold their position when a team mate was in a life threatening situation.  They were powerless to assist, so it would have been counter productive on the battlefield had they not left it to Aaron and focused on their duties. Which was, in this case, to stay out of the way." Her voice was calm and direct with no hint of condescension or agitation.  She explained it as simply as if a general had asked her.

After his quick conversation with Khayman, Nolan turned back to watch the last boy display his gifts.

---Khayman---

Khayman realizes he should probably be using sir and salutes and …well not being nearly this forward with a Lieutenant.  Insulting the man and not addressing the his superior rank is likely not going to endear the man to Khayman or the boys.

---Everyone---

Marcus leaps up into the air with such force dirt and rubble blast outward from his feet.  When he comes down on the SAMAS, his blade splits the main body of the power armor with one blow. The sound of the hit cracks like Thunder and dust and wind blast outward from the impact.  Even the ground shakes slightly from the force of the blow.

Several howls erupt from around the parameter and a few cheers along with them.  This doesn't disturb anyone as they've heard the dog-boys and parameter guards cheering during practice before.

Meris smirks and nods to Marcus, "As usual, Well done."

She turned to the three young men as Marcus moved to join them. "This is what the High Command will want to see.  Perform for them as you displayed here and I am sure things will go perfectly. Any questions?"

---Nolan---

Thankfully, during all of these exercises, Nolan did not once sense the presence of magic being used.

Aaron flashed Marcus a thumbs up. Clean. A one word compliment, but Marcus knew what it meant. Aaron had the uncanny ability to understand just how much punishment something could take and his brother's last swing was almost perfect one-shot.

Nodding his approval, Khayman looked from Marcus to Nolan, then turned and walked from the practice field. He needed to go prep for the arrival of his highness and the rest of the command flunkies. Regardless of his feelings, he knew he had to play along, to keep in contact with Marcus, Aaron, and Veigo. He needed to make sure that they weren't used to make this world anymore fucked up then it already was.

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
