The First Mission - (Chapter 1)
#51
Nolan  simply picks up his hat off the table, quickly goes and gets another cup of coffee and follows  the women outside. he doesn't mind trailing behind, he is jut her to observe. He takes another sip of his coffee, black, just the way he liked it. No wonder she felt it needed more sugar.

This should be interesting. The woman seemed to like to keep their charges slightly off kilter. It probably helped them manage them. He wasn't going to interfere, just observe. If he did see magic, hee was still undecided if he would report it or conceal it.

Obviously Joseph Prosek suspected something, or he'd not have sent Nolan, and just taken these women's reports at their word. The question was how that could be turned to Nolan's advantage, to help him stay alive if the Coalition ever learned of his own abilities.

Depends on the mission parameters I suppose. The Coalition says "jump", we jump. Such is a solider's lot. Aaron plopped down on the bench next to Marcus.

---Khayman---

Khayman sits back down and sips his coffee. A few things start to cross his mind.  The emperor's high command would like arrive with him.  So this officer was here for another reason.  He was questioning the Psi-Stalkers and not him. That meant …He was here to evaluate the boys for some reason. And the Psi-Stalkers were particularly edgy. That meant the guy was likely not here for the good of the boys. It took him a minute before it dawned on him that he had overheard their conversation.

The man was here to test the boys to see how human they were. So he was Coalition Intelligence. Apparently the reports from the Psi-Stalkers had not been enough. So those three women had already failed in their explanations. That could mean trouble.

---Aaron, Marcus, Viego, and Nolan---

The Psi-Stalkers moved quickly over to the boys as they waited.

Kora gave a quick command without stopping, "To the training field. We need to run through the primary abilities that the Emperor's high command will want to see."

With that said, everyone starts toward the field. The day is quite nice, the sun is not quite in the sky yet and there is a cool breeze rustling the thick tree cover over head. Overall it was probably one of the nicest days any of those gathered had seen in months.  The Spring rains had stopped and the cool early summer air carried the fresh scents of new green plants and leaves.

Everyone stopped in the stands just outside the training area,  There were seating stands to the right and left that were covered in case of bad weather. Or to provide shade as the field was surrounded by trees, but not close enough to provide any.

"Viego first!" Lyn barks and motions for Viego to step into the field.

Viego looks around at the others sheepishly grins and moves forward as commanded. He steps out onto the field several places, and then turns around slowly to face them. He paused and waiting to see what they wanted him to do.

Meris walks over and runs a finger along Viego's shoulder and up to his ear. She projects her voice so everyone present can hear, "The first thing they will expect from all of you, will be to see how much damage you can take! Your durability is one of the primary thing that excites the Command Council. They believe it will finally put us on even footing with many of our most hated enemies. Once that is adequately shown, I would expect a measure of pain in the demonstration, so prepare yourselves, they will want to see your strongest power. So its nothing insane or difficult. The Emperor just want to show off your capabilities. In Viego's case, they will want to see him display his energy blasts."

She gestures at a set of targets. "Lets practice. Go through all of your known energy blasts."

Viego nods, and takes a deep breath then gestures. He chooses Fires first with his left hand, then Ice with his right aiming at different targets. Followed by Lightning, from his eyes cause he always thought that was amusing and follows up by breathing out a Poison cloud of Paralyzing Mist. Honestly Viego hadn't learned he could shoot his blasts out of other body parts until recently... there had been an incident with some chili farts and the paralyzing poison cloud had cleared a lot of area.

Sipping his coffee while he watches, Nolan instinctively watches foor magic in use. [automatic, range 100 feet]

While walking out to the training field he also tried to get a sense of if there were any ley lines or nexuses within his sensory range (50 miles).

Finishing his coffee after the others had departed the mess hall, he sighed taking in what he realized and pushed off the table. Fuck it, he grumbled to himself and stalked out of the building heading toward his quarters. Military Intelligence, an oxymoron to say the least, he thought as he arrived at the small barracks.

He needed to look his best for the graduation, no sense disappointing the Emperor and his flunkies. After several minutes he left his quarters heading to the testing field arrayed as a proper soldier. Fully geared in his armor and bristling with weapons. No one, not even Prosek was going to fuck with his little brothers and if this new Intelligence officer made any slip ups well, accidents happen at military institutions all the time.

Arriving at the site where Kora and girls were running their little pre-emperor study, he remained casually in the background. Not hiding, but not announcing his presence either.

---Everyone---

A quick demonstration shows Viego, unleashing four distinctive attacks; fire, ice, lightning and then exhaling a blast of noxious gas. It was one he had recently discovered on taco night to everyone's horror. Though Marcus and Aaron thought it was pretty damn funny and dubbed it the Taco-Hell attack.

Most everyone notices Khayman show up, looking like he's about to take on the whole of Tolkeen by himself.

Meris nods to Viego, "Excellent job. They may ask to see other powers that we have detailed in your reports, but overall that is what they will be looking for.  A solider who is resistant to the most horrific forms of damage, has multiple forms of attacks and never runs out of ammo is something they specifically wanted to see."

She gestures for Viego to return to the sidelines. "Aaron!"  She waited for the young man to trot up. "Granted your greatest powers are your understanding of machines. But they have already seen the reports and results of that power.  Here they will want to see you're healing abilities.  We have some psionics that possess healing, but its rare. A simple demonstration of your healing is all they will desire."

With that, Meris pulls a small dagger from her boot and quite thoroughly slices open her arm to the point where bone is exposed. The woman winces but doesn't' even cry out, though she does shoot an eye to the Officer who is observing before looking back at Aaron.  Blood sprays from the wound like a severed gas line.

---Aaron---

(DM - Aaron has never seen one the Psi-Stalker hurt themselves like that.  Roll a d20 to see if he keeps head. There is A LOT OF blood. )

Viego smiles and steps back to join the others. He gives Aaron a smile and a high five as they pass. Pleased with himself.
