RE: Missing Caravan - Mardak Trannyth - 12-31-2015

"Ah'm right here Missy.  An extra pair O' arms.  I am wantin' ta provide and sure of my ability to do so Maam."  He bends down and drags her up into his arms.  Might take awhile but he gets her in his grasp.  "What's the plan and where we going?"

RE: Missing Caravan - Selina Parcellus - 01-01-2016

Selina gives Mardak a look, but there's no venom behind it this time.  Besides, he was right.  They needed to formulate a plan fast.

"We don't know how long the paralysis lasts. We can't carry her all the way in to...wherever it is they are being held, now can we?  I'm mostly worried that we're losing time, and time is no longer a luxury."

RE: Missing Caravan - Jonath - 01-01-2016

Jonath sighs and nods. "Agreed. Every moment we lose may the last for the captives, but we cannot leave Betimi alone in this state, and it would be...unwise to wait here until she regains consciousness. We can only hope that happens before someone notices the guards at the cave mouth are missing and a general alert is sounded. Speaking of which...I suggest we head back to the cave entrance. We can gather their bodies on our way out and hide just outside the cave so that we can keep an eye on the area to at least be aware if someone comes by and notices them missing. With any luck, Betimi will recover quickly and we can move back in while we still have some element of surprise on our side."

If the others agree, he will head back into the main hall to make sure no one is coming then lead them back out of the cave, stopping to help gather and drag/carry the bodies of the guards as they move.

RE: Missing Caravan - GM Marvel - 01-01-2016

Jonath moves around the corner to make sure no one is coming but any attempt at hiding is foiled from the light spell and lit torch.  As he rounds the first corner, Jonath spots a handful of Kobolds beyond the Portcullis.  Before he can react they are already firing readied sling bullets at him.

[Note: This is a surprise round but Jonath spotted the Kobolds so he is allowed to act and he isn't flatfooted.  Firing through the bars imposes a -2 penalty to hit.]

They fire their bullets.  Two of them miss [8, 6] but one plinks him in the chest [21].  [Rolled 0 damage but minimum is 1 point]

[OoC: Jonath you get the surprise round and then you go at the top of initiative.  So FIRST you can do a Move OR a Standard (not both) for the surprise round and then you get to act first at the top of the First round.  If I'm not being clear that means you need to act twice.]

Jonath: 14 [ Damage: 1/18]
Kobolds: 14 [Rolled a 14 but Jonath has a higher initiative bonus.]
Nacesh: 13
Tomeal: 13
Betimi: 11
Mardak: 10
Selina: 6
Monster-in-a-box: 2

[Mardak is black, Nacesh is Red, Betimi is purple, Jonath is Grey, Blue is Selina, and Tomeal is Orange]

  • Green dots are Kobolds
  • Within the yellow lines is the limit of the brightly lit area of the torch/ spell.  Beyond the yellow line and up to the Red line is dimly lit.
  • Those without darkvision can see the Kobolds in the dimly lit area but will have a 20% miss chance unless you move toward them to shine your light upon them.
  • Feel free to ask any other questions.

RE: Missing Caravan - Jonath - 01-02-2016

Jonath starts as the sling bullets clatter around him, one hitting him in the chest , leaving a painful but minor bruise. With the portcullis still down and no way to return the attack, he finds himself at a severe disadvantage. Luckily, mundane weapons are not the extent of his abilities. Darting to the side slightly to see into the room better, he focuses his attention on the space next to the pulley system in the room as once again slightly glowing silver strands appear and coalesce into the rough, ghostly form of a clockwork soldier. He pictures the soldier grabbing the pulleys and pulling, and as if it were a puppet, the figure does exactly that, the portcullis raising as it pulls. Taking advantage of the surprised and confused goblins, Jonath drops his staff and somersaults under the gate as soon as it's high enough (which isn't much, considering his stature). He carries the momentum of his roll forward as he comes out of it, fist extended, slamming directly into the little creature's stomach. As it doubles over from the blow, he follows the punch by leaping up from his crouch, his knee slamming into the kobold's face.

The toy soldier, its job of raising the gate done, takes one paltry swing at the nearest kobold but the toy sword misses completely. Before it can even draw the weapon back again, its form begins to unravel and dissipate back into the ether from which it came.
Surprise round: I'm taking a 5' step (pretty sure that's allowed in a surprise round?) to D7 then manifesting Astral Construct (w/ Trip) @ A5/6. Free/immediate action to command the construct to open the gate.

Round 1: 5' step to C6, FLurry of Blows attack on B5. Free to command Construct to (move if necessary, then) attack A4.

Attack 1:[1d20+5] = 10+5 = 15, Attack 2:[1d20+5] = 20+5 = 25, Construct:[1d20+2] = 3+2 = 5
Crit confirm:[1d20+5] = 15+5 = 20
Damage 1:[1d4+1] = 4+1 = 5, Damage 2:[2d4+2] = 6+2 = 8

Forgot to add my +1 racial vs. kobolds, so I'm pretty sure that's one hit and a crit. Construct misses then disappears.

RE: Missing Caravan - GM Marvel - 01-02-2016

[Ooc: Internet is acting up again but I don't want that to slow things down. So I will do what I can on my phone.

Four kobolds run up on Jonath. The sight of the Gnome seems to embolden them. They stab at him with spears. One he dodges easily [KEYCAP TEN], two were narrow misses [14, 14] but the last caught him through the thigh [18] . Intense pain shoots through his leg [1d6-1=5 damage MAX] The kobold grins while yanking the spear out of your flesh. A split second later a blast of force flashes from the hand of a kobold who is standing back [at A4]. The bolt smashes into Jonath's chest [1d4+1=4 damage].

Jonath is surrounded by kobolds located at B6, B9, C5, D5.

Tomeal moves to D8 and fires off a crossbow bolt but it misses [rolled a 16 but needed an 18 due to firing into melee. Included natural armor house rule reduction of -1 for using a crossbow at close range]

NOW IT'S EVERYONE ELSE'S TURN!

Please note the only place to safely move into melee is to squeeze into D6.

Jonath's hit points are currently sitting at 10 out of 20 [10/20]

I should also mention that on initiative of 2, Betimi begins to regain control of her body and she will be able to move on her initiative next round!

RE: Missing Caravan - Mardak Trannyth - 01-02-2016

((OOC: I believe that Mardak should set her down on his initiative then ))

RE: Missing Caravan - GM Marvel - 01-02-2016

[OoC: I think that would be a move action. You can still do another move or a standard action.]

RE: Missing Caravan - Mardak Trannyth - 01-03-2016

Mardak sets her down then draws his shield on his turn ((two move actions))
