What no one in their lives was aware of was that Malcolm's parents were both mutants, who had become skilled at hiding their abilities in public, never risking exposure. Malcom was raised to be ultra cautious with his abilities, trying to avoid situations that might tempt him to use his abilities. His father went to work every day, while his mother home-schooled him. Things were perfectly normal. All that changed just after Malcolm's 8th birthday, on September 24, 2009. Malcolm's father was killed defending his family, and Malcolm's mother was captured and taken away. Malcolm has never seen her since that day, when her last words to him were to not be angry at people for being scared. She has never stood trial, never been formally charged as far as Malcolm is aware, she simply hasn't been seen again. Malcolm has spent the last 6 years as an angry, confused young man; bouncing from foster home to foster home, always afraid to use his powers because whenever he does, he gets moved again because people get scared. Then a few months ago, on the anniversary of his father's death and his mother's arrest; which also happens to be his birthday, things came to a boiling point. Malcolm was driven to the point of using his powers in anger when he was being verbally bullied by a group of kids at his new high school, several other kids were severely injured and left in comas, and Malcolm was about to be sent to Juvenile Detention, lucky for even that because the prosecutor wanted him tried as an adult. Her parents had a tense relationship. Her father was a stoic law student, while her mother was a free-spirited entertainer. Ultimately, this led to Katherine walking out on Carter while Alison was still a toddler, leaving Carter to raise Alison with the help of his mother. Katherine's leaving had a profound effect on Carter, who had kept the shameful secret of Katherine from Alison all her life. As Alison entered adolescence and developed dreams of becoming a singer, her father became increasingly intolerant to the idea. It was at this moment Alison decided to abandon her father's dream. While at her graduation ceremony Alison informed Carter that she would not be attending the law school he had selected for her to pursue a life as a singer without her father's blessing or financial support. Dazzler used her light-based mutant powers as a draw for her performances. Taking the sound of the music and converting it into dazzling displays of color drew the young singer enough attention to land her gigs at several New York clubs and discotheques. However, Alison knew that she would have to keep the nature of her powers a secret. Marketing her light shows as a "technological secret," Alison was able to bypass critical speculation for some time. Yet while this little white lie fooled the club managers and others in her life, it did not escape the notice of Emma Frost,White Queen of the Hellfire Club, or Charles Xavier, founder and mentor of the X-Men. Desirable Talents Both the Hellfire Club and the X-Men sent entourages to a Dazzler performance to recruit Alison to their respective ideological side. The X-Men sent Phoenix, Cyclops and Nightcrawler to have a discussion with the young woman, while the Hellfire Club sent a group of armed men to take her by force. The combined powers of Dazzler and the X-Men suppressed the foes and freed other members of the X-Men who were being held captive by the Hellfire Club. Professor Xavier offered Alison a position within the X-Men, but she declined choosing to focus on her career. Subsequently, Alison became an increased target for super heroic phenomena. In one instance, she was possessed by the foe Lightmaster and was thankfully saved by Spider-Man. In another, she acquainted herself with Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, at a posh nightclub. Her father had brought his family to the US from Mexico, fleeing the drug cartels, when Ramón was still a toddler, before Porsche was even born. He had actually managed to gain refugee status due to the fact that the Juarez drug cartel had put a price on him for suspecting that he has been a source for the Mexican Federal Police in the 1987 events in Santa Elena (Ojinaga), Chihuaha, Mexico that resulted in the death of the leader of the Cartel, Pablo Acosta Villarreal. Armando struggled to keep his family fed and sheltered, without compromising his morals. In Corpus Christi that meant working the overnight shift as a cook in a Whataburger for nearly minimum wage. As a result the Villar's were desperately poor. Things took a decided turn for the worse in the fall of 2011, when Porsche's father was killed in a late night drive by shooting, in which he was not even involved, when a stray bullet ricocheted through the window of the restaurant. Ramón , at the age of 16 was suddenly left being 'the man of the house' and quickly became involved with local gangs trying to support his mother and younger sister. Meanwhile Porsche became more and more involved in dance, her brother paying for her lessons with the sudden influx of drug money he earned with the gang. That lasted sevral years, but went sour when he refused to allow his young sister to be used as a drug mule, then when he tried to leave the gang they turned on him and jumped him. In the resulting fight with the gang, Porsche first manifested her powers, at the age of 14. Fearing gang retribution, Ramón packed up his mother and sister and moved them in with family in Laredo. In the two years since he has turned his life around, realizing how much his gang involvement would have upset his father, and how much it endangered his mother and sister. He is now working with the Texas Border Patrol in Laredo, and through his law enforcement contacts learned that there was a place where his young sister might learn to control her powers. Porsche is furious at him for convincing their mother to send her away, least of all to somewhere so far away from all her friends and family. This community, called Neverwhere after Neil Gaiman's television series about a secret magical city, is hidden underneath the streets of Seattle, tucked in caverns behind the old city that was buried there when disaster prevention efforts caused the city planners to build the streets a story or two in elevation. There are tours that go through some of the old, underground buildings, but plenty of tunnels and caverns exist that are believed to be unsafe, or even haunted, and that is where the citizens of Neverwhere made their home when they split from another group of hidden mutants that was getting too large to hide. Gedeon's mother is on the Council of decision-makers for Neverwhere, which does not exactly afford her the consideration one would expect, as they practice communal child-rearing. Within the community, however, one's role in life is generally determined by the powers you manifest. Since Gedeon manifested her blades, she was trained as a warrior and guard, to eventually be called upon to protect the Clan. She has always been fascinated with the surface world though, and when she heard, through a chance meeting with a mutant outsider, about a school for young mutants, she beseeched the Council to let her make contact and strengthen the Clan's ties to the mutant community as a whole.

She got separated from her father, and saw a bunch of kids with powers fighting against the robbers. She stepped in to help, and they won the day. And when the kids left, stepping through a portal to unknown places, she raced after them because they were the only ones she felt might understand.
