It was a 5 foot step to H3 from I4, 5 foot steps do not provoke attacks of opportunity. Again she is stepping INTO merlee not out of it.
J5 would be out of melee , and NOT where she weants to go.
She is deliberately moving closer, not further away.

The lights from the cave behind the creatures intensify and suddenly thick bolts of black lighting blasts from the opening. When she gets to H3 she will attack the Purple creature with her light mace, knowing her spear will be ineffectual. No one has tried blunt weapons yet.. maybe..
She continues to attack defensively, so the -4 penalty and the +4 bonus balance out.
