[IC] Chapter 1-11: The Sea of Hate
#1
Location: The calling circle above the armory.
Time: Solar eclipse (still...).
Present: Giant, Lugar, Portho. Even though it might contain spoilers this is the final scene of this chapter therefore I recommend for everyone to follow the thread but only post if your first post includes your character joining the scene IC.

With grim determination the most unlikely trio of a duergar, a half-orc, and a forest gnome scale the rope and the vault once again. The armorer stays downstairs with apparent control over the guardian. The rest wait with tension, expecting any signs of them being needed upstairs.

As the three pass the trapdoor one by one they are thankful that Torin's prayer protects them from prying eyes. The circle is tightly packed with at least nine of the evil skeletons and a young man wearing leather trousers and a leather tunic over a white linen shirt hovering above their heads. A pair of glass lens surrounded by a wire frame rests on his nose.

"We have company," he says in a sinister tone, and the skeletons respond with low snarls.

As the three clear the trapdoor's yawning pit they have a feeling that at least this young man can see through the divine shroud; but can the skeletons?

Hearing the malice in the young man's voice and seeing the swarming skeletons, Portho gulps..

Then steeling himself he begins to recite an epic poem about a heroic stand against the forces of darkness....

[d20srd.org -   Inspire Courage (Su)
A bard with 3 or more ranks in a Perform skill can use song or poetics to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to hear the bard sing. The effect lasts for as long as the ally hears the bard sing and for 5 rounds thereafter. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 morale bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.]

Init?

Giant swings the sack with remains and throws into the center of the circle above the skeletons. 5-foot step back. He grabs his axe.

[1d20+9] = 10+9 = 19 throws +1 = 20

OOC - has anyone told Giant that any attack against any undead from any single participant will break the Hide from Undead spell for all recipients?... and there's someone in the middle of the circle above the skeletons, and Giant doesn't know whether he's an undead... yet.

The sack flies up above the heads of the skeletons who hack at it mid-air but all of them fumble or miss their mark. The bulky missile hits the floating figure on his thighs... and passes through harmlessly, falling on the ground on the far side of the circle.
Giant immediately remembers where and when did he see items, even magic weapons, passing harmlessly through opponents! (OOC - rolled a natural 20 for his Int check)
"Heh," the figure smirks as he looks after the heavy package landing behind him.

Ooc - He draws the axe? Don't you mean the big granite fisted club that bludgeons? Wink  Does Portho have the sword of light? I'm going for the light vs darkness thing here.

~Shit. Did not want to get into another fight and it seemed there was no avoiding one now.  A floaty man could see right through our spell, must be one of those floating undead types since he's right in the middle of the evil circle. The big guy, Silent Giant, almost blew the spell and the little guy is singing.  No point in being quiet~

"Stick together.  Portho, get ready to heal. Don't go near the circle. Let them come to us."  He says softly, trying to ease the tension of a pending combat. Lugar drifts closer to Giant and readies a tanglefoot bag to throw at the first skeleton to attack them, hoping to stick it to the floor outside the circle.

OOC - He doesn't attack undead he throws a sack into the center of the circle above skeletons, he doesn't care if someone is in the center of the circle. His target is a 5x5 or 10x10 ft square/circle

OOC - No, we have no chance to win Smile But with his axe he has +1AC (+2AC in total defense, TWD). He will use total defense (AC:28) until we close the gate... or all of us will die...

OOC - Lugar, you have the circlet, try to command undead Smile

OOC - Lugar must have forgotten (Int check 2, sorry) that neither singing nor grunts can be heard by undead while under the protection of the spell...
OOC2 - Giant you threw a thing "above the skeletons" exactly where the floating figure was. Just in case you missed this part.

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
