[IC] Chapter 1-9: Circle of Hate

[OoC: The spell lasts for 10 minutes a level and a cleric has to be 5th level to cast it.  So if it's round 12 then we have at least another 488 rounds or 688 rounds if he's our level.   Smile

We will have to do something with Torin before it wears off or Portho and the Priest will be reenacting a Benny Hill Chase scene.  At least as a Bard he can play the Benny Hill theme song (Yakety Sax).   Tongue

OOC - IMHO you can start it and you will finish it in the 1st round.

OOC - He's in our level or above cos he has a restoration spell prepared.
OOC - Yes it's a serious problem but Torin rolled the second save attempt just it didn't happend yet Sad

If he can cast the summons in the surprise round then he will.

As for Torin making his second save, we don't know this.  We all will try to restrain him at first, likely with his blessing.  Then when the Circle vanishes, Torin has to convince us he is no longer under control but because that's what a person under the effects of a charm would say, we don't believe him.  Then hijinks and hilarity ensues.  With how fearful of magic that SG is, Torin could end up with a few whacks with the stone club.  Meanwhile Toot would say he was trying to makes sure the ropes are tight but is actually trying to loosen them a little hoping Torin escapes to beat the Gnome up for a few rounds.  Ludgar has his face in his hands thinking we're all doomed!  And yet these are the people fate threw together to save the world from multiple apocalypses!   Big Grin Tongue
Confirmed, you can start full round action in surprise round and you will have a std action remaining in the first rd.

70 rounds or 70 minutes, my mistake but hopefully won't matter.

Will send first rd in about 12h
Surprise round

Lugar quickly puts back his pick into its holding ring and unstraps his shield.

Maul moves northeast, close to the trapdoor, while roaring,
"Move! We are running on reserves!"

Murkatos, all too eager to try his new wand, doesn't listen to the priest and aims the blunt end at the easternmost warrior.
"Tritelis!" he exclaims, and three sizzling bolts of pure force speed unerringly towards the warrior, hitting it squarely but it does not seem to be too much phased. (OOC - magic missile, CL5)

Toot's first instinct is to run for the trap door. But noticing everyone crowding around him reminds the doodid that he happens to be the center of a Circle of Protection. For a split second he thinks, "Fuck'em!" but then he hears Ludgar say, "undead apocalypse continues"
"Craaaaaaap!"
Refusing to be on the front line with Torin, Toot says, "I can't fight in front so I'm moving back!" Toot takes a 5' step (jog) but remains close enough for the circle to cover most of the group. When Boo joins him, Toot will be sure to try to use Boo for as much cover as he can get from his Companion. Toot begins the summoning Process again by chanting to the elemental plane of fire/earth and motioning with his hands, over and over, like he was pulling something toward himself with an invisible rope.

Portho yells,
"Who can use the club?!!"
Giant answers,
Yeah!!! Finally a usable weapon!
Portho begins to orate an epic poem about a battle versus hordes of Undead (bard song)

While waiting for the gnome to retrieve the magic club Giant bashes the skeleton next to him with his ordinary quarterstaff, holding it in both hands (AC24, damage 14 with Portho's song and without rage... will he rage again?)

Torin prays to his goddess and a shimmering disk made of wind is his reward for the faithful words.

Round One

Lugar stores his shield and retrieves his halberd, ready to wreak havoc from a distance (OOC: remember it's a reach weapon and the target may have cover if you attack with someone else between you and your opponent)

The southern warrior comes to its senses first, slashing towards Torin twice but barely sufficient to get around the divine deflection, only to be blocked by the dwarf's shield.

"Get the hell outta here and deal with the vampire until too late!"
Maul shouts but makes an attempt to scare the undead away by the shine of Pelor.
"Back ye foul creatures of darkness!" he utters and his symbol shines up with a pale, weak light; may Pelor's power be overshadowed by the solar eclipse?...

The westmost warrior joins the fray, staying inside the circle, and attacks Torin but fails to bypass his armor.

"Tritelis!" the armorer exclaims again, and three more sizzling bolts of pure force speed unerringly towards the same warrior.

The very same warrior responds to the bashy barbarian and his second cut almost passes through the barbarian's magical armor. Almost.

The fourth warrior, however, makes good use of the distraction and cuts deep into the half-orc's flesh (AC42 crit confirm AC27 and AC24, grand total -24hp)

Boo keeps protecting Toot when a thoqqua appears and... (?)
Toot vigorously rubs his hands together and in response one of his open palms suddenly bursts into flames as bright as a torch!
(OOC I believe you can start with an attack as part of casting the spell right away. And the damage is maxed at 1d6+5)

Portho sticks his hand into his haversack and summons an item to it.. pulling out a greatclub ending in a clenched fist of granite.  The weapon is easily twice as tall as Portho and he wobbles unsteadily holding it. The gnome rolls it over one step behind Giant's back with a heave.

Toot's and Giant's turn!
Note: there are some open points for Toot above. Giant didn't explicitly write that he would pick up the greatclub from the ground risking an AOO so here goes the question: will he do it? (with three warriors threatening and 18hp left)
Once Giant's turn is resolved, Lugar will follow so feel free to post in advance. If you attack we will reuse the rolls you've already made.

Hm? Didn't he grabed geatclub in the surprise round?

If three AOO - Nope

He goes into rage before he attacks them (club or staff?).
OOC - no. Portho started singing in the surprise round. We might consider Giant foregoing his surprise round attack and ready an action instead to accept the club from Portho. Then I'll reverse the quarterstaff damage and Giant has the club in his hands (no AOO) with one move action remaining from first round.
Ooc- is it a reach weapon? I agree it should be but in the PHB it is not. But if that's a special quality of this fine weapon I'm certainly okay with that. Smile. I just hope it's not cursed...
ooc Wrote:SG could get the club without an AOO, but he must step back 5 foot before that.
1. Do a simple attack (standard action).
2. Step back 5 foot.
3. Get the club.
OOC - Oh. Never thought halberds would NOT be polearms; or that they would be polearms without reach; when I wrote the adventure. But a halberd it is, with the stats written in PHB. No reach.

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
