[IC] Chapter 1-4: Cellars of Hate
While Murkatos lost in details Giant cheks the cold iron wall and the 3 ft wide corridor underwater. How high is water level here?
If he finds nothing new he goes back to a dry place (tomb's door) and patiently waits Lugar to search the area and touch/turn the relief. (take20 I suppose)
Lugar will search the wall as well, careful not to touch anything accidentally, and this time he will take his time. (take 20) Also, Lugar uses his thieves tools if possible to study the wall. (I imagine he would have a small magnifying lens, picks to find tiny crevices, and a small cone usually used to hear the clicks of lock)

Ooc - can Murkatos use aid another to aid in the search for more clues about the iron door? Also when we are finished he can cast Protection from Energy on Lugar. Also Maul can buff Lugar with Cat's grace if he has it, for some divine influence on this door Smile
Lugar searches the iron wall, careful not to touch the runes. He observes that he wall can probably be moved by triggering some mechanism and he thinks the wall would move upwards. He tries to feel the surface and hear any resonance from beyond, but there's silence over there; apart from the faint ripple of water washing both sides of the iron wall.

The armorer casts a protection spell (OOC - assume Electricity; clarify if you have another element in mind) and the priest recites a prayer to imbue him with grace.

Then, they leave the dwarf alone and seek cover in the only dry place nearby-- the crypt. (OOC - Will Giant follow them? please specify where to stay)

Ooc - I know we talked about it out of character but can I assume that Lugar took Merri's necklace of mage hand when he was getting his tools to inspect the wall, since you said he knew how to use it?  If so he will try to use the mage hand to turn the  runes from a distance.  If not he will use his dwarf hand Smile

When everyone is ready Lugar attempts to disable the trap first.  (I rolled three times in case the first roll didn't work)
Disable Device
(1d20=10)+16= 26
(1d20=12)+16= 28
(1d20=14)+16= 30
Lugar then focuses on the runes and attempts to turn the last rune 180 degrees so that it reads (nmuw)
If nothing happens after a few seconds he will turn the first two runes 180 degrees (uwuw)
If that fails to do anything after some time, he will turn them all down so they read (nmnm)
And the last combination he can think of is (umum)

Ooc - he will wave his hands and grandly say "open sesame" if it opens Big Grin
OOC - lucky bastard Smile

Lugar took Merri's amulet for safekeeping but has no idea about the command word so decides to figure out the runes puzzle the hard way.
He retrieves a lengthy piece of wire from his masterwork set and carefully attaches it to a minute protrusion on one of the runes, then takes the other end of the wire outside, to the metal parts of the external door's frame, careful for it not to be connected directly to water.

Wearing his leather gloves (OOC - if you don't have them treat them as part of the MW kit Smile ) he turns the fourth rune around (nmuw) and just as he releases it a sizzling surge of energy discharges from the iron wall and runs all along the thin wire which dissolves in a blinding white flash but nobody is hurt.

"Hey, this works," the dwarf thinks and reinstalls another length of wire, this time turning the first rune around (umuw) which discharges another dose of sizzling energy, ozone filling the air as the iron wire evaporates again.

On the third attempt (uwuw) another surge of sizzling energy burns another length of wire to nothingness.

It seems that the trap resets every time he turns a rune 180 degrees but also if he's simply touching them. He can keep trying, turning two at the same time, needing two more rolls to achieve umum first and nmnm next...
Will he keep trying?
"I'm still alive!" He calls out to his companions. "Dark Maiden, watch over me." Lugar whispers to himself as the flashing electricity burns up his metal wire.  He has to wait each time for his burning eyes to adjust back to the normal darkness.

Disable Device
(1d20=8)+16= 24
(1d20=17)+16= 33
At the next attempt (uwuw) the wire does not connect properly and Lugar is struck but the electric surge is dismissed by a shimmering shield around his body. (OOC - 29hp off the PfE spell)
Upon the fifth attempt (nmnm), though, there is no discharge.

With a hiss, the iron door rises to the air. The armorer hiding in the crypt's side corridor, his mace does not shed any light into the room beyond, but Lugar's darkvision enables him to see into a circular area of 30 feet in diameter, him standing right at the edge. (continued in next chapter!)

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
