[IC] Chapter 1-9: Circle of Hate
[OoC: People can speak even when it's not their turn.  Toot would just like some kind of consensus for what action the group wishes to do next.  Toot may delay his attack until after Torin moves so Toot only gets the -4 to hit for firing into Melee but not the other -4 for firing through a square which gives cover.]

[OoC2: Another option is to cast Stone Shape.  It affects 10 cubic feet + 1 cubic foot per level (17 cubic feet)  How well would that work in tunneling our way to safety?  Toot could put the Summoning circle into the area of effect which would hopefully destroy part of the skeleton's circle.]

[OoC3: Since the Golem is likely instructed to attack anyone who enters the area, it might have stopped trying to get out of the water since no one is around.  So he could be just chillin at the bottom of the pool. ]

Toot's Range Touch Attack +11; Result 31! ROLLED A NATURAL 20!!; Damage: 1d6+5 + 1 (song) = 9 (not 15); But undead are immune to Critical hits, dammit!   Angry
Ooc- Can you stone shape a funnel so the skeletons drop on the golem through the floor? I brought up the Thoqua idea because of the bear climbing rope and all, also I thought it would make for a quicker getaway for the last person to slide down a tunnel and not risk being trapped with the golem. Either way we need to get out of here until we find the key of hate and toss it into the sea of negative energy. I think we will need the circle open for a while.

Ooc- isn't there some rule on spells doing x2 damage on a crit roll? Smile But I guess if you rolled a 1 it would blow up in your face.
OOC1 - yes, such discussions are possible but not necessarily in the heat of battle. The consensus is still not earned as some keep attacking (like, a raging barbarian, and maybe Portho didn't express his support of the idea of getting outta here.) but that shouldn't stop other party members in starting the evacuation.
OOC2 - You could dig a vertical shaft about 1ft diameter, maybe 14 inches which should do for a tight squeeze for everyone if bulky armor is removed (esp. Torin and Maul are problematic). However, the thoqqua's fate caused by its digging attempt doesn't suggest Toot that it would be a good idea. Remember, the circle seems to be floating on the place where the thoqqua damaged the floor. Also, if the entrance of the shaft would be there then the party should risk crossing the purplish beam of light.
OOC3 - Exactly Smile
OOC4 - Yes, double damage on crit roll for touch spells but as Toot mentioned: no crit on undead. Still, it's a solid hit. Not sure about bard songs as it says "weapon damage roll" but I think this spell counts as a "weapon" for this purpose.
OoC1: Forgot to mention that Toot and Boo will take a 5' step to the West after Torin moves so Toot can throw his flames north without anyone giving the Skeleton Cover.

OoC2: The Produce flames spell specifically states: "you can hurl the flames up to 120 feet as a thrown weapon. When doing so, you attack with a ranged touch attack (with no range penalty) and deal the same damage as with the melee attack."

OoC3: I do have a question about Produce Flame and #of attacks.  The spell states: "No sooner do you hurl the flames than a new set appears in your hand."  Does this mean Toot could get multiple attacks with the flames?  The spell says it acts like a thrown weapon.  You can get multiple attacks with thrown daggers as long as you either have the Quickdraw feat or you already have a dagger in each hand but you must take penalties as if fighting with two weapons.  But in the Produce Flame's case, it kind of has the Quickdraw feat built into it since the flames instantly reappear.   Personally I don't think it would over power the spell since each flame the caster throws reduces the spell's duration by a minute.  So you're always going to get the same number of balls of flames.  So Toot can throw a maximum of 7 balls (or 14 with extend).

OoC4: Would creating a funnel work with Stone Shape, so when the skeletons appear they drop into the water with the Golem?  Perhaps the Thoqqua could help with the building of the funnel and use the Stone Shape to just smooth the edges out.

Raging barbarian keeps attacking but he is injured badly and he has agreed to leave this place (check his last post). But he won't be the first one who flees from battle. Smile
Yes, the description is like quick draw and what it means implicitly is that you are not unarmed when it's not your round, i.e. you threaten an area (were you not your size) and can use the spell for AOO for example. You continually function as a light source; others can hold torches into your palm to light them up, etc. You can also use more than one attack per round based on your BAB but remember that all attacks reduce duration by 1 minute. Thus, it also means that you cannot throw 14 balls since throwing 12 needs 12 rounds plus it decreases duration by 12 minutes, leaving only 8 rounds left, thus the spell will go out latest after you've thrown the 13th one. If you had BAB +6/+1, on the other hand, you could throw 12 balls in 6 rounds, leaving 14 more rounds, just enough to throw the remaining two balls.

Concerning having the skeletons drop; remember that the center of the circle is not above the guardian's place; it's 20 feet to the west which is juuust outside the armory (30' diameter). Plus, the skeletons may have a word (at least a reflex save) before falling through a chute that's barely wide enough for them to fit through.
Portho really can't verbalize his desire to leave, he's busy singing. I will find a way IC to communicate his wishes.
That's good since it's your turn anyway Smile

Portho will take another 5' step to the space between Maul and Murkatos, while his song shifts to be about a band of heroes making a valiant retreat when faced with an overwhelming army. Since it is now a free action to maintain his bard song he will use a move action to reopen the trapdoor if it is closed.
OOC - a missing response to Giant: they regenerate in the circle, yes, but you have no proof that there's a correlation.

Round Three (continued)

Toot waits for Torin to clear the path before throwing another ball of flame.

Portho changes the theme of his song while retreating slowly to the east. Nobody bothered closing the trapdoor so it's still conveniently open. Peeking inside, Portho thinks there's no movement down there, not even a slightest ripple at the surface of the water but then again, visibility is quite poor down below.

Giant continues to attack the flanked undead and finishes him with his second blow. He takes 5ft step to lure them out from they terrain (circle) and begins the retreat.
"Back, they overpower us!"

Torin aids Lugar in his melee before moving east.

Toot enters the path that has just opened and throws a ball of flame to the next, damaged undead.

Round Four

The northernmost warrior enters the place of its fallen comrade and slashes at Lugar. The protective aura helps but fails to stop the attack and Lugar is hurt (AC23 -10hp)

Lugar's turn! (remember you have +2 to attack if you attack the warrior north of you but not if you attack one of the others. All of them are unscratched.)

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
