Just listened to Dino's breakfast quiz in Jo'burg Classic FM and realised that Jermaine are actually SOLENODON!

wikipedia Wrote:Solenodons (meaning "slotted-tooth") are venomous, nocturnal, burrowing, insectivorous mammals

I learned something new today as well... why not read the full article?

Fascinating, their teats are next to their butts. Let's see how Toot role plays that Wink

Well officially Toot has not declared a gender yet, so whenever I address the character as "he" I'm just making an unfounded assumption. We'll have to figure it out. Smile

What a coincidence! Okay, I'll put the game on hold until tomorrow, is it a deal?

1. DC20 to use wand
2. DC25 to activate "blindly" (that is, guessing the somatic or verbal component needed to activate the wand). If you fail by 10+ there's a mishap.

I'm not suggesting this for this game (or any game) but with the way UMD is written it's actually a really over powered skill.  There are other shenanigans but Specifically I'm talking about the Emulate Ability Score.  Lets say you want to cast a spell off a scroll.  You emulate a 40 intelligence and now their saves have to overcome spell DC28.  Neat!  You could likely do this with a Staff too which uses the user's ability scores for the DC of their abilities too.   Sure it's hard to roll a 55 on your UMD but you can easily buy items to boost your skill and they are fairly cheap as long as the skill bonus doesn't go above +6 or +7.  Buy one with a enhancement bonus, another with a insight bonus, another with a sacred bonus, ect and soon you can get those high DC's.

So does that mean I now get a poisonous bite?  And I think I should get a charisma bonus because those guys are kind of cute! Big Grin

Re UMD--
Base Charisma 16, +3 UMD
+5 UMD from four different sources, 10k gold
+4 Cha (+2 UMD), 16k gold
5 ranks on spellcraft (+2 synergy)
5 ranks on decipher script (+2 synergy)
This gives +29 total.
Assuming you are 12th level and you max your cha (+3 = +1 UMD) and your UMD skill ranks (+15) you now have +45, means you need to roll 10 or higher.
All you need is spending 1650gp on every single scroll of disintegrate (DC 10+6+15 = 31) and cross fingers that your opponent (likely being 12th level at least) doesn't have a +21 on Fort (+8 from class, +6 from con, +2 from feat and +5 from one or more items that add up) so they have a smaller chance of resisting than you casting...

EXCEPT

The scroll's DC is not set by the user's ability score; it is set by the scroll's creator and usually it's the lowest needed to scribe the scroll in the first place. (Int 16 for a level 6 spell, means DC19)
Second, the purpose of the Emulate Ability Score "task" is to fulfil minimum requirements. Is it mentioned anywhere that you can incorporate them into any computations?
E.g. when using a ranged touch scroll, can you emulate a high Dex to have an attack bonus? N.O.P.E.
When attempting to control a sphere of annihilation, can you emulate a high Int? No because it's not a prerequisite. Even if you do it does not influence your control check.
When using a +1 greatsword with your Str 5 (2d6-2), can you emulate Str 40 and deal 2d6+23 damage? Again, no.
What's more, a dwarven waraxe has a str requirement of 13 to use it one-handed. Can you emulate at least Str 13 to do so if the axe is magical? No way.

Now is the place to object before it gets into "live operation". Smile

Yeah Toot's handsome compared to us, I thought I had the lowest CHA. Giant is beating me in kills and ugliness Smile

Giant, if/when this thing attacks us, Lugar can try to tank it, using his combat expertise and fighting defensively that should be +8 AC, I know Tumble boosts fighting defensively somehow but have to look it up again. Your hits will do more damage but if Lugar can "taunt" it, I think that is our best chance. And if Murkatos is on our side he can try to find a command word or the key. Maul keeps us alive hopefully?

Agree, we have to get the key and run Smile

ABOUT US
A gaming group started in late 2005 when several members (from all over the world) came together on a long-running forum website called Plothook.net (formally known as Highmoon.net). Several games transformed from a by-the-book format to highly modified versions that became new hybrid systems with completely custom rules and abilities. Ten years later, these faithful players wanted to secure their work and their stories, becoming the basis of these forums.
